Can someone explain to me how the field was determined for the World Challenge at Knoxville and maybe how they determined the lineup? I saw a decent amount of complaints about the 25th starter but never saw how the World Challenge field was determined. Thanks

From KnoxvilleRaceway.com:
The SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge runs as the finale of the Friday night Qualifying for the 53rd Knoxville Nationals. This international invitational event, which pays the winner $10,000, will match drivers that have qualified through specific racing events in Australia, Canada and New Zealand over the last 12 months.
Only those qualified drivers that enter and receive qualifying points on either Wednesday or Thursday of the 2013 Knoxville Nationals are eligible to compete. The starting lineup will feature the first 12 cars inverted based on points, provided they are in the top 106 in points after both qualifying programs and have competed in one of the five international qualifiers.
Those outside of the top 106 in points and/or those outside of the top 16 entrants in qualifying points, will tag the rear of the field (lining straight up by points). A maximum of 24 cars (top 24 eligible/entered in qualifying night points) will start the SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge on Friday, August 9, 2013. The World Challenge race distance will either be 16 laps (16 or less cars) or 20 laps (17 or more cars).

Thanks. Was it something else in the past? I want to say I thought it was called the race of champions or something during a previous year.

In years past it has included drivers who have won big sanctioned or non-sanctioned races in the US as well
