Just curious what everybodys most memorable nationals moments are or how long theyve been going. Ive grown up going to weekly races in Knoxville ever since I can remember and started going to the Nationals for the whole week in 1996.  For me its a toss up between the 1998 nationals when Lasoski finally won it and the epic celbration afterwards, and the 2010 nationals when Sammy and Schatz battled for 47 laps.  Sammy had it in the bag before his tire blew and then everyone thought Schatz would win again.  When Shaffer pulled it off the entire place went nuts like ive never seen. Those are my 2 personal favorites.

Been there 7 times and by far the most memorable was Shaffer's upset win.

Been going since 2003 and it has to be the 50th running with Shaffer passing Schatz with 2 to go.

First National was 77.

Most memorable was 79 when Sammy drove from the D to third in the A. I believe that is correct. I stood in turn 1 the entire night watching him and he made the hair on the back of my neck literally stand up. Haha

When Sammy had to win races to make a living he was hard to beat!

My money is on Kyle Larson this year. That kid has incredible talent!

The first is always the most memorable. 1990 Scruffy bottom-feeds to the win.

11 years for me now.  Shaffer winning 2010 is an easy #1 for me.  #2 would be the 47 laps leading up to the Shaffer win with Sammy and Donny battling.

Another memory that sticks out is Dude and Brown getting together for the last transfer spot in the B and then scuffle in the pits afterwards with dad/grandpa.  2007?  2008?  Can't remember the exact year.

This is a no brainer....not even a debate.  1988 ... Steve and Karl (the best ever in their absolute prime after humiliating everyone on the planet with the best year ever in 1987) being pushed to the limit by a lonely Ford in only its second full year.  Nothing before or since even comes close.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

The best Nationals for me was the 1971 race. Great battle between Jan Opperman in the Cahill car, Earl Wagner in the Hank Smith number 5, Eddie Leavitt in the Barker car I think...a classic battle..Opperman won.

Three great drivers racing for the win. It was classic.

Leavitt won two Nationals in a row a few years later and I think could have won three nationals in a row but was crashed while driving a fast Seibert Olds #9 machine.

The Nationals with out wings was an entirely different race...

1982 - Kinser vs. Wolfgang...30 laps green and 2010 - Sammy vs. Schatz with Shaffer sneaking in late.  Also: 1988 (Steve late) and of course 1990(Scruffy holding off oil-blinded Sammy) are the ones that stand out for me.

The Dude driving under Sammy coming out of turn 2 on lap 30 in 1998 is by far the most memorable Nats for me.

As much of a die hard Schatz fan that I am, mine has to be 2010 with Schaffer taking the victory in a huge upset. Yes I was even cheering and yelling at that one. Then telling my then 6 year old son (his first nationals btw) we just seen one of the greatest races and a huge upset ever at Knoxville. Having my kids there helped in making it memorable for me as well!
