FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – July 30, 2013 Seven point races are down and four point races remain as the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansa presented by Precise Racing Products modified division gets set to close out the final three months of racing action for the 2013. And what has been a general trend on the tour looks to repeat itself again this year as the battle for the championship looks to be coming down to the final event on the schedule.
Defending tour champion Marc Hurd of Wichita, Kansas sits atop the point standings and holds s slim 70 point lead over Wichita driver Dan Powers. Dustin Belcher (Wichita) still has a competitive shot at the championship as he is only 100 points out of the top spot. Josh Lanterman (110 points out) and A.J. Brochu (115 points out) are also within striking distance.
Drivers rounding positions 6-10 include: Jon Thompson, Jason McGehee, Don Hodge, Tyler Davis and Justin Moler. Eleven drivers have competed in all seven events while four drivers have missed only one event on the schedule.
The inaugural two-day “Modified Spring Scramble” at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas kicked off the 2013 season with drivers competing in both the qualifying night and championship night earning points. The winner of the $5000 first place prize was Ryan Gustin. Other feature winners include: Davis (81 Speedway), John Allen (81 Speedway), Josh Lanterman (Belleville, High Banks) and Brian Franz (Kansas State Fairgrounds). The victory had the Belleville High Banks was Lanterman’s first ever with the series while Franz’s second career Hutch Nationals Championship also gave drivers points from both nights of racing action.
Dating back to last year, eight different drivers have reached victory lane and eleven out of twelve races have produced a different feature winner. The only repeat during that time was Hurd (Elk City) almost one year ago.
The balance of the 2013 schedule looks like this:
August 17 – Route 66 Motor Speedway/Amarillo, Texas
August 31 – 81 Speedway/Park City, Kansas
September 1 – Belleville High Banks/Belleville, Kansas
October 12 – 81 Speedway/Park City, Kansas
The next top on the tour at Route 66 Motor Speedway will see the second straight year the Kansas based tour will make the trip to the west Texas speed plant where former NCRA modified south tour champion Gene Weaver brought home the victory in front of the home town crowd.
The annual Labor Day double-header at 81 Speedway and the Belleville High Banks will set the stage for the final point race at 81 Speedway where once again officials are expecting the season feature finale to decide who will become tour champion.
