Event Points Heading into the Finale
of the Williams Grove Summer Nationals
Mechanicsburg, PA—July 21, 2007--By: Tony Veneziano, World
of Outlaws PR
During the first two nights of the Cleveland Brothers
Summer Nationals Presented by Advance Auto Parts, event points were accumulated
by competitors for time trials, heat races, and the corresponding Main Event
that they competed in each night, C-Main, B-Main or
A-Main.
After each of the first two nights, the points were
accumulated for all competitors. For the $20,000-to win finale tonight, the
accumulated points will be used to line up the heat races, with Jason Sides the
current event point leader starting on the pole of the first heat, Donny Schatz
who is second in points on the pole of the second heat, Paul McMahan who is
third in points on the pole of the third heat and Lucas Wolfe who is fourth in
points on the pole of the fourth heat.
The rest of the field will be lined up heads-up
according to points, with Joey Saldana who is fifth in points starting second in
the first heat, Kenny Jacobs who is sixth in points starting second in the
second heat and so on until all the heats races are
filled.
The Crane Cams dash on Saturday night will be made up of
the first and second-place finishers in each heat. The Top-Four in points are
guaranteed to start the dash in the same spot as they are in event points, if
they finish first of second in their corresponding heat race. For example, if
Jason Sides finishes first or second in the first heat race, he will start on
the pole of the dash, by virtue of being the event point leader. If he finishes
third in his heat and Donny Schatz, who is second in points finishes first or
second in his heat, then Schatz would start on the pole of the dash, due to
Sides not finishing first or second in his heat
race.
The remaining cars in the dash will be the other first
or second finishers in the four heat races and they will get their point totals
back to determine where they start in the dash. For example, if the first four
in points all make it into the dash and Joey Saldana, who is fifth in points,
finishes first or second in his heat race, then he will start fifth in the dash
by virtue of the points he earned on the first two
nights.
The final two starters in the 10-car dash will be the
next two highest point earners that transferred from their heat into the
A-Feature, but did not finish first or second in their heat race. The dash will
determine the Top-10 starting position in the
A-Feature.
The rest of the field for each main event (C-Main,
B-Main and A-Main) will be lined up by accumulated points similar to how time
trials speeds are used during a standard one-day
event.
