Berck Lays Claim to NCRA Late Model Nationals!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Doniphan, Nebraska – July 13, 2013 - Kyle Berck passed mid race leader Jimmy Segraves with ten laps to go and went on the rest of the way to claim his second straight Chuck Bosselman Memorial/NCRA Late Model Nationals Saturday night as the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products late models made their annual trip to Mid-Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan, Nebraska Saturday night.

Justin Gregg and Wade Cross started on the front row for the thirty lap feature but it was fourth starting Bill Leighton taking the lead at the initial start. The race quickly went yellow when drivers went five wide around the three-eighths mile oval and entering turn three, the final result was spin outs and crashes.

On the complete restart Leighton again jumped out front and was chased by Segraves and Berck with the leader opening up a three car length advantage.

Then on lap nine Segraves, fresh off his first career series win at the Belleville High Banks just one week ago, took the lead from Leighton and would open a five car length lead.

Cautions for spins occurred on laps eleven and seventeen and on after a restart on lap seventeen, a four car pileup on the front stretch brought out the red flag. During this time Leighton would have to go pit side with mechanical gremlins but would restart at the tail of the field once racing action went green.

When racing action finally resumed, Berck was on Segraves bumper and on lap nineteen would make a pass for the lead.

From then on there was no catching Berck as he went on to claim his fourth career NCRA late model nationals victory and the first with the series in 2013.

Third starting Al Humphreys stayed in the top five all race long and would pass Segraves late to finish second. G&G Dozer rookie of the year contender Jacob McGee turned out another strong performance and also got by Segraves to come home third. Segraves would settle for fourth while Mike Wiarda rounded out the top five.

The three heat races for the thirty car field were won y Berck, Gregg and Leighton while Billy Murphy claimed the twelve lap "B" feature.

The next event for the NCRA late model division will take place on Friday and Saturday night, August 9-10, as the tour heads to Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Nebraska for the annual running of the "King of the Hill Late Model Nationals" in a co-sanctioned event with the MARS DIRTCar and Lucas Oil MLRA late model series.

This is what I do have. Will try to get more information tomorrow when they are back in the office. Rememeber this is non-sanctioned and there were 13 cars I believe:

On Friday night, J.D. Johnson won a spirited battle with Luke Cranston to claim the 305-ci portion of the Hutchinson Grand Nationals. Veteran Mike Peters, Jeremy Campbell and Zach Blurton rounded out the top five.
