TULSA, Okla. (July 18, 2007) – The American Small Car Series, ASCS2, heads just across the Oklahoma state line this Sunday night, July 22, for its first appearance at Caney Speedway in Caney, KS.
The opening two ASCS2 events of the season, both at Creek County Speedway, attracted entry counts of 66 and 69 on April 29 and June 3, respectively. The series was rained out at Creek County Speedway on July 1.
The series also brought 65 entries to Will Rogers Raceway in Claremore, OK, on July 8.
With three classes of Micro Sprints in action, including the 600cc-Multis, Non-Wing and Restricted "A" Class, the opening three events of the season offered up three different winners in all three classes.
It was not until Monday night, July 16, that ASCS2 had its first repeat winner when Scott Sawyer topped the Multi feature in support of the ASCS Speedweek event at Creek County Speedway. After tangling with a lapped car and flipping while leading the ASCS2 Multi opener at Creek County on April 29, Sawyer captured his first ASCS2 win at Will Rogers Raceway on July 8.
While Sawyer has two ASCS2 Multi wins, Chris Berreth and Montie Frey, Jr., have also visited victory lane. However, it is Ryan Duke who leads the way into Sunday's card at Caney Speedway with a one-point advantage over Berreth in the championship points race.
Alex Decamp, Jonathan Halford and Denny Felker have each scored Non-Wing feature wins, with Decamp holding a 43-point lead over Jim Woods entering Sunday's event.
Tanner Mullens, Kyler Ray and Brandon Hahn have each been victorious in Restricted "A" action, with Kansas shoe Mullens holding a 21-point lead over Ray.
Sunday's hot laps begin at 6:00 p.m., with racing action set to go green at 6:30 p.m.
Caney Speedway is located one mile west of Caney, KS, on Highway 166. For more information, contact the track at 918-357-5430.
