CANYON SPEEDWAY PARK OPENS

07/19/2007 --- Canyon Speedway Park (formerly Canyon Raceway) will have their grand re-opening this Saturday night July 21st. The Canyon racing facility recently changed ownership and the new management has been working hard the past three weeks on improvements in and around the race track. Racers and fans will start to see many changes when they attend the races this week and in the future as the Canyon staff led by new owners Doug and Kristi Gabbard clean, paint, upgrade and make the race track a more fan and racer friendly facility.

The track has been closed the past three weeks while the new team has been putting all the pieces in place and is now ready to open the dirt oval once again with the headlining Barnett Modifieds, the popular Pure Stocks, the Desert Dwarf cars and the Arizona Modified Midgets. The track’s staff intends to run a well timed event getting the races going on time (7:30 start time) and finishing the nights feature events in a timely manner.

Look for some of the best Modified drivers in the southwest to take in the action this Saturday as drivers such as past Arizona Champions Darren Williams, Jason Noll, 2006 Canyon Champ Tony Steele, 2006 Barnett Modified National Champion Christy Georges from New Mexico and a strong field of Barnett Modifieds are expected at the 3/8’s mile track. Local Pure Stock drivers such as 15 year old Taylon Center, former track champion Doug Porter and most recent winner Ty Weidner are expected to compete. The Desert Dwarf Cars and Modified Midgets bring their brand of “Welter Weight Racecars” to the upgraded facility to round out the action.

Gates open at 5:00pm with racing starting at 7:30pm. Admission is just $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and military with kids 10 and under always free.

Canyon Speedway Park is located off 99th Avenue just south of the Carefree Highway. Call the track phone at 602-258-RACE (7223) or visit us on the World Wide Web at www.canyonspeedwaypark.com for track and racing info.
