KINGS SPEEDWAY AND SCRA SALUTE FANS By Dan Fleisher (Hanford, CA - 7/18/2007) Kings Speedway (CA) promoter Frank Dias will stage a “Salute To The Fans” night on Saturday, July 21, featuring SCRA’s 360 c.i. non-winged Sprint cars. To show his appreciation to the dedicated fans who have supported the track during its first full season of action-packed racing after being shuttered for almost two years, Dias has invited SCRA to run a 50-lap feature event instead of the normal distance of 30 laps. Additionally, the winner’s share of the overall purse has been increased to a hefty $1,500. The second-place finisher is expected to receive $800, with $700, $600 and $500 expected for following three positions.
With the increased distance and available purse, a larger than normal field of “hungry” drivers are expected to vie for the expanded dollars and laurels including the current point leaders, Davey Pombo, Peter Murphy, Rusty Carlile, Jeff Gardner and Jonathan Logan. Murphy will be going for his fifth consecutive victory at “The Place to Race.”
SCRA’s head “honcho” Richard Harvey is hoping to have 30 to 35 dirt-track specialists on-hand to compete in four heat races, a “B” main and the marathon 50-lapper. Additionally, the regular fan-favorite Passing Masters Dash will take place. Peter Murphy, current point leader of this separate series with 44 markers, hopes to maintain his lead over Pombo’s 38 and Carlile’s 16. The Dash is open to the fastest six drivers based on qualifying times, who must then transfer out of their respective heat races by finishing first through fourth.
Special prices for the fans have been established for this special evening: Adults $12, Kids (6-12) $5, Military $8, Senior citizens $8. The Pit Gate opens at 2 pm and the Grandstands at 5 pm.
