Hi Everyone

I need help with a few clarifications on the Knoxville 305 rules.

Can the heads be ported.

Can material be added to the heads. ie new bronze guides to heads previously with integral guides (iron), new valve seats intake and exhaust, weld?

Valve material Stainless Steel or Inconel.

Crankshaft any aftermarket crank as long as it is 48LBS or heavier (what if they have shaped counter weights is knife edged?)

Mains and big end size, Honda big ends and 283 mains with spacer bearings?

Ignition MSD 6AL or 7AL. or just Vertex style mag.

Sorry some of these questions may seem obvious to some people.

But I am in Australia and don't get to see or hear what people are doing on a weekly basis or even get a chance to talk to any competitors about this

Any info would be greatly appreciated

The way I read it and we dont run Knoxville but are planning on later in the year, is that heads cant be touched but guides and seats would be ok, stainless steel valves are ok, cranks cannot be knifed edged only drilling to balance, size of journals I dont think makes a difference. We run a large journal carnk with with small journal rods, but this is at 34 raceway. It says in the rules no msd boxes.

Most of this I just look through their rules.

hope it helps and I may be wrong LoL

thanks for that

I was just questioning the ignition as it says no MSD PRO MAG and dose say you can use Magnetos electronic Kettering type only this is why I am asking these questions as you guys know what's allowed and what is not.

So aftermarket crank must resemble the look of OEM in its counter weights shape?

Any one racing at Knoxville shed some light on the head porting?

thank for your input Kart31rac

magneto--You can run vertex or mallroy. They do not want you to run electronic mags. One can be confused with head porting. We found hilborn 327 injectors match up perfect to the Dart 49 cc heads. Porting would be foolish in a 305. At one time Cappy said you could match ports up going no further in than 3/4 inch.

So Msd electronic 6al and 7al would be ok as they are not a electronic magneto

Do you have a part number for the 49cc heads as I haven't been able to find them?

So there is no definitive yes or no that you cannot port the heads as it dose not state any thing to say no porting a real grey area isn't it that's why I am asking these questions

thanks LINBOB for the heads up on what injector to look at and other info you have given.

thanks for the replies

Thanks for that link for the heads

It seems like there is no hard and fast answers to some grey areas in the rules and its about pushing boundaries and not crossing the line ,just very hard to know how far we can go been on the other side of the world

I don't want to send a couple of engines up there and hope its legal due to My interpretation of the rules and find it is illegal or not push the rules enough and not be competitive at the same time.

Thanks for all that have contributed some answers to my questions.

We run 49cc Eq heads 2.02 1.60 with 200cc runners, if you run 2.02 you will need notch the cylinders.
