PRESS RELEASE, HOOSIER RACING TIRES CIVIL WAR SERIES
FROM THE OFFICE OF JOHN PADJEN MOTORPORTS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, MONDAY, JULY 16, 2007

Civil War series bound for weekend double header at Chico, Petaluma
Forsberg leads field to Chico Friday; Petaluma star Alyssa Geving in Saturday field

By Bill Sullivan
John Padjen Motorsports

CHICO, CA – The Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series returns to action this weekend with two events at two race tracks from the north state to the north bay. On Friday night the series will return to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for its second appearance of the year on the famed quarter-mile. Saturday night the winged warriors will travel to Petaluma Speedway to make their first appearance of the year on the 3/8 mile track.

Heading into the two day event, defending champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn of continues to lead the point standings in the series in which he has claimed three driving championships in his career. For the entire season thus far, Forsberg remains winless in the Civil War series but holds an impressive record consisting of seven top five feature events so far. This weekend the driver that race fans either love or love to hate enters the twin events with a 13-point advantage over Brett Rollag of Rohnert Park.

Forsberg will focus on ending his long dry spell this Friday night at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Last year Forsberg used his talented skills and competitive nature to win both the Civil War title and the Silver Dollar Speedway title in the same season. The driver known as “Mr. Excitement” became the first one to win both titles in the same year in the history of the series and is always a force to be reckoned when he returns to the Silver Dollar clay.

Much like Forsberg, Rollag also has served his time on Silver Dollar Speedway. Last year the Rohnert Park native drove his way to the Rookie of the Year title in the weekly series at the dollar and trails Forsberg by just 13-points. Colby Wiesz of Colfax is third in the standings. Wiesz won the last Civil War event at Silver Dollar Speedway over the Memorial Day weekend event.

Rounding out the top five is Elk Grove’s Greg DeCaires in fourth and Sacramento’s Mike Henry in the fifth position. DeCaires is the 2005 series champion while Henry has two series championships to his name. A total of 51-points separates fifth from first place in the standings.

Sitting just a notch out of the top five is Placerville’s Andy Gregg. Gregg is currently sixth in the point standings and will enter the event in the wake of his recent series victory at Marysville Raceway Park during the sixth round of action two weeks ago.

Following the Friday night event at Silver Dollar Speedway, the Civil War Series will head to Petaluma Speedway for the ninth leg of the 15-race series. In this event many fans and drivers alike will be setting their sights on teen age sensation Alyssa Geving of Penngrove. Last Saturday night Geving made history at her home track of Petaluma Speedway when she not only became just the second female racer to win a sprint car event there but became the youngest lady racer in California to accomplish the feat at just 15-years of age.

Geving’s efforts followed several early season top runs at Petaluma Speedway and ended a short streak of misfortune aboard her family owned #3 sprint car. The daughter of veteran track champion Gary Geving is eager to compete in California’s most competitive series this Saturday night.

“I’m really excited to be running the Civil War this Saturday at Petaluma,” said Geving, a student at Ursuline High School where she has a 4.14 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. “I wish we could do both Chico and Petaluma but with just one car right now we don’t want to take a chance on running at Chico and not being able to race at home. I feel I can do better at Petaluma since I have been running well there lately. I love racing with the Civil War Series and I’m looking forward to Saturday.”

Geving has competed in two Civil War events so far this season. Her first event was at Placerville Speedway followed by an appearance at Silver Dollar Speedway. In 2008 she plans on running the entire series to compete for Rookie of the Year honors.

For additional information on the upcoming Civil War events log on to www.johnpadjenmotorsports.com. For information on Petaluma Speedway check out www.petalumaspeedway.com. KINGS SPEEDWAY AND SCRA SALUTE FANS
By Dan Fleisher

(Hanford, CA - 7/18/2007) Kings Speedway (CA) promoter Frank Dias will stage a “Salute To The Fans” night on Saturday, July 21, featuring SCRA’s 360 c.i. non-winged Sprint cars. To show his appreciation to the dedicated fans who have supported the track during its first full season of action-packed racing after being shuttered for almost two years, Dias has invited SCRA to run a 50-lap feature event instead of the normal distance of 30 laps. Additionally, the winner’s share of the overall purse has been increased to a hefty $1,500. The second-place finisher is expected to receive $800, with $700, $600 and $500 expected for following three positions.

With the increased distance and available purse, a larger than normal field of “hungry” drivers are expected to vie for the expanded dollars and laurels including the current point leaders, Davey Pombo, Peter Murphy, Rusty Carlile, Jeff Gardner and Jonathan Logan. Murphy will be going for his fifth consecutive victory at “The Place to Race.”

SCRA’s head “honcho” Richard Harvey is hoping to have 30 to 35 dirt-track specialists on-hand to compete in four heat races, a “B” main and the marathon 50-lapper. Additionally, the regular fan-favorite Passing Masters Dash will take place. Peter Murphy, current point leader of this separate series with 44 markers, hopes to maintain his lead over Pombo’s 38 and Carlile’s 16. The Dash is open to the fastest six drivers based on qualifying times, who must then transfer out of their respective heat races by finishing first through fourth.

Special prices for the fans have been established for this special evening: Adults $12, Kids (6-12) $5, Military $8, Senior citizens $8. The Pit Gate opens at 2 pm and the Grandstands at 5 pm.

FIVE RACES HIGHLIGHT SATURDAY’S KING TACO FAMILY NIGHT AT IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY

Five races including an Auto Club Late Model race and a Truck racing twin bill highlight Saturday night’s (July 21) King Taco Family Night at Irwindale Speedway. Children 12 years of age and under will be admitted for free when accompanied by an adult.

The Auto Club Late Model division features a five-way battle for the division point standings with the lead currently occupied by Tim Huddleston of Agoura Hills with 334 points. Four other drivers are within immediate striking distance of the former division champion including 18-year old teammate Jace Meier of Las Vegas (326), Michael Wright of Yucca Valley (312), Aaron Staudinger of Canyon Country (302) and Kevin Callahan of Bakersfield (284). In the last race on July 4, Wright jumped into the thick of the action scoring his ever division win. While Wright started from the pole and led the entire race, a persistent Meier was on his tail with a 0.276 second margin at the finish line separating the two cars.

The Legend Cars return after a three-week hiatus with Darren Amidon of Santee holding a 40-point lead over Austin Grabowski of Upland. Defending division champion Tom Landreth of Alta Loma recovered from a slow start to his season winning two of his last three races and is in third place only 50 points off of Amidon’s pace.

Saturday’s event also features the King Taco Super Trucks and the first of two appearances at Irwindale Speedway by the ASA Speed Truck Challenge. Pat Mintey Jr. of Quartz Hill leads the Super Trucks division standings within an impressive string of one victory, four runner-up finishes and two third place finishes in the first seven races. Matt Hicks of Santee is in second place trailing Mintey Jr. by only 48 points. After eight races, Victor Pfluger leads the ASA Speed Truck Challenge division standings with 463 points. But Pfluger’s cushion is slim with 14 points separating him and Darren Young. Rookie Bear Rzesnowiecky is in third with 408 points and Randel King is in fourth, one point behind.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with qualifying sessions. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session will take place on the track with the drivers, crew members and race cars at 5:45 p.m. and the green flag waved at 7 p.m. for the first race featuring the Bandoleros.

Tickets for all Irwindale Speedway events are available for purchase at the Speedway ticket office, by calling (626) 358-1100 and online at www.irwindalespeedway.com. Auto Club of Southern California members receive a 10% discount off of the purchase of up to four (4) adult general admission tickets for Saturday oval racing when they show their AAA membership card. Auto Club members can also receive discounts on special offers at the concession and souvenir stands.

Irwindale Speedway is located at 500 Speedway Drive off of Live Oak Ave. and the I-605 freeway, between the I-10 and 210 Foothill freeways in Irwindale, California. Log on to www.irwindalespeedway.com for further information.

LOCAL RACING RETURNS TO ALTAMONT MOTORSPORTS PARK THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

07/18/2007

TRACY, California -- Local racing returns to Altamont Motorsports Park this Saturday night as all five local divisions hit the track for "Allstate Insurance Night!"

Highlighting the show will be a NASCAR Whelen All-American Western Late Model 100 lap shootout on the "Fastest Half-Mile in the West." This big event pays $1500 to win and should draw top talent from throughout the area.

The Grand American Modifieds, American Limited Stock Cars, Pro-Trucks and Formula Fords will also see action on Saturday night.

NASCAR Whelen All-American Western Late Model points leader, Ryan Philpott, will be looking to get back on track after an apparent tire problem relegated the racer from Tracy to a fifth place finish on June 30th.

Doff Cooksey will try to make it two-in-a-row as the hard charging driver from Brentwood came from the back of the pack on June 30th to secure his first victory at Altamont Motorsports Park this season.

Philpott is currently ranked eighth in California's NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model program and occupies the 119th position nationally.

Philpott leads Ken Benhamou by a whopping 171 points in Altamont Motorsports Park Western Late Model point standings this season.

Also battling it out on the half-mile oval will be the Grand American Modified division where Tony Noceti saw his points lead shrink last Saturday night with a disappointing seventh place finish after completing only 18 of 40 laps. Newcomer Scott Winters took the win in last Saturday night's Grand American Modified event.

A newcomer also took the checkers in the June 30th American Limited Stock Series race on the 1/4-mile with Joe Allen making a triumphant return to the track this season. Allen's return should put pressure on points leader Jim Dulla who is locked in a tight points race with the ALSC teams of Jim Earl and Tim Rappa.

The Pro-Trucks are scheduled for a 30 lap shootout on the 1/4-mile oval with driver Nathan McNeil holding a slight advantage over Ron Robeck in the points standings.

The fan favorite Formula-4s will start and finish the evening of racing with two ten lap events on the road course.

Gates open at 2pm on Saturday with racing set to begin at 5pm. Ticket pricing is $12 General Admission, $9 for Seniors and $7 for youth.

SLAM-BANG FIGURE 8 RACE to cap Saturday’s program at MRP

Marysville CA. This Saturday night the final race of the evening will feature the Extreme Bombers in a “SLAM-BANG” FIGURE 8 RACE.

Promoter Paul Hawes will reshape the infield and have the class of stock cars race a dramatic course of left and right turns that will include an intersection that the racers must negotiate in order to complete the lap. Other cars will approach the intersection from the other direction creating breath-taking possibilities. It has been decades since a FIGURE 8 RACE was staged in northern California. The Extreme Bombers, this year have had to hit one another to win, they have gone the opposite way on the track, but this could be the toughest assignment yet. A significant increase in the car count is expected for the Extreme Bombers race this week. As interest in the class continues to grow more figure 8 races may be scheduled.

The mighty Wingless Warriors of the Wingless Sprint Car Series will bring their open wheel brand of excitement to headline Saturday’s ambitious program.

The KKCY Country 103 Cup Stock Cars and Mini Stocks will bang fenders and do battle in the quest for the KKCY Country 103 Cup.

The front gates of Marysville Raceway Park will open at 5 PM, racing starts at 7 PM.

ASA SPEED TRUCK CHALLENGE DRIVERS TACKLE L.A.’S ½ MILE SUPERSPEEDWAY

07/19/2007 UPLAND, California -- Things were a buzz in the ASA Speed Truck Challenge (ASA STC) offices this week in preparation for the series return to the famed Irwindale Speedway ½-mile high banked oval in Southern California this Saturday. For both the drivers and ASA STC president, Jay Rutherford, the back-to-back races in July signify the dramatic 2007 racing season drawing to a close with only five races to determine the tight Championship Point’s hunt. “We knew that this season might be one for the books,” says Rutherford, “but we never dreamed just how tight it would be as up to last weeks race the Championship Points battle was separated by one point.”

Since the opening green flag on March 3rd at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway, this year’s ASA STC has been anything but boring. Victor Pfluger in the #80 Parker Farms Dodge, current Championship Point’s leader, has set the fastest qualifying time in four races and has won twice; at Tucson Raceway Park and Orange Show Speedway. Right on his heels, second in points, is the two-time ASA STC champion Darren Young in the #18 United Nissan Chevy S-10 with three victories back-to-back-to-back at Tucson Raceway Park, Firebird Int’l Raceway and California Speedway. Going into the last race at Orange Show, there was just one point separating the leaders. The season has seen five different winners in eight races with oval track qualifying times of all trucks in the field being separated by 7/10 of a second. This clearly presents the competition parities with the Van Gordon Racing Engines and Mallory / ACCEL ignition systems. “It’s definitely a year for the record-books,” commented Rutherford. “All but a few of our races have been won in the last few laps, which show just how seasoned and experienced our drivers are in the series. I can’t wait to see who wins the shoot-out as we finish our last five races,” he laughed.

The ASA STC is the largest traveling series on the west coast with over 65 trucks on its roster and runs the most exciting nine tracks in the California, Arizona and Nevada area. For drivers that are truly serious about moving up in the ranks, ASA STC is the place to learn. This diversity in circle track experience was exemplified recently when Randal King, ASA STC 2006 Rookie of the Year, climbed into a Super Late Model at Tucson for the first time; starting dead last in the field; only to move immediately up through a large field to lead the race half way through the event, finishing third. “Our drivers instinctively know how to race when they step into other vehicles,” says Jeff Austine, ASA STC head tech official. “The experience that they get in this series is unmatched anywhere in the country.”

The show-down at Irwindale Speedway will see 25 hard-charging drivers take the track on this incredibly fast venue. Speeds on this three-groove track could reach 115 mph, which makes for exciting, edge of your seat racing sometimes seeing the Speed Trucks four abreast. You won’t want to miss this one! The Speed Truck Challenge travels the Southwest competing at Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway, Tucson Raceway Park, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Orange Show Speedway, Havasu 95 Speedway, Irwindale Speedway, Firebird International Raceway, California Speedway and has raced numerous events at Phoenix International Raceway and Mesa Marin Raceway. The Speed Trucks are full tube chassis, 108 inch wheelbase, 350 horsepower Van Gordon Racing V-8’s, a 2-speed direct drive transmission, aluminum quick-change Speedway Engineering rear end, 8-inch Hoosier Racing tires, powered by Torco Race Fuel and fired by Mallory / ACCEL ignition systems and are capable of speeds of 155 MPH. The Speed Trucks sport exact replica Norris Racing fiberglass bodies in Chevy S-10, Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Dodge Dakota and Toyota Tacoma. - www.SpeedTruck.com.
