Decker Denies Harrison in Elk City NCRA Sport Mod Action!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Elk City, Oklahoma – May 31, 2013 - Former tour champion Todd Decker held off race long charges from Mark Harrison to claim his first victory of the season as the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products southern sport modified division kicked off two straight nights of racing action in two states at Elk City Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma on Friday night.
Decker, aboard his familiar #42 Bob Howard PDC/DIRT Performance/Godfather's Pizza/ASL Graphics sponsored Biscuit Built sport mod, started on the front row for the thirty lap feature and after a first lap caution, jumped into the lead.
Harrison, who came into the weekend third in the point standings, chased Decker throughout the race which saw twenty-six straight laps of green flag racing before J.D. Choate brought out the caution with just three laps to go.
Those last three laps would continue to provide excitement as Decker ran the top with Harrison running low. Coming out of turns three and four on the final lap, both drivers banged wheels for the lead and coming down for the checkered flag, Decker edged Harrison by one car length to take the victory. Harley Menacher came home a close third followed by point leader and fifteenth starting Robert Elliott and rookie contender Kenny Morris.
Coming down the straightaway on that final lap, Chris Lyons got together with another car and flipped down the front stretch. His car was heavily damaged but he climbed out uninjured.
Throughout the 30 lap feature only one car was lapped with 21 cars out of the 24 car starting field completing all scheduled laps.
The ten lap heat races for the thirty-nine car field were won by: Decker, Ross McCartney, Jeff Kaup and Harrison. The two, ten lap "B" features were won by Elliott and Choate.
