NCMA Sprints
Madera Speedway - Madera, CA
July 7, 2007

By Sharyn Bragg

7/07/07 Lucky For Lavell

Jimmy Lavell had the luck of the 777’s with him this evening as he almost made it a clean sweep at Madera Speedway.

NCMA Sprints were returning to the one-third mile pavement track for a make-up rain date. On this very hot July day, Lavell’s Randy Jones Const.#02 was pretty hot as he set fast time. Ed Amador was second quick, and Gary Koster was third. The evening was already interesting as these are the top points guys to date.
Denny Burrell, who was fourth quick, started the Trophy Dash on the pole, with current pavement points leader, Koster beside him, Amador and Lavell behind them. Burrell held his own the first round, Lavell made it up close, but Burrell was met from behind by Amador and Koster made it around for the win. Amador was second, Lavell , third and Burrell fourth.

Heats were run. Jeff Burrows won the first heat. Bill Zarevich came in second. Rob Hammond was third, and a much under weather Michael Zarevich was fourth. The second heat had Lavell starting in the back and finishing in the front. Burrell was next, Koster third and Amador was fourth.

The thirty lap Santos Ford-Toscano RV-Westside Ford sponsored Main Event began with Michael Zarevich on the pole and Burrows holding the shotgun position. Hammond inside second row and Burrell on the outside. As Zarevich and Burrows brought them to the green, Lavell who was several rows back started working to the front. He made it in short order and half a lap ahead of the rest of the pack. M. Zarevich was holding onto second with Koster breathing down his neck. A third of the way in, Koster had gotten around M. Zarevich and was trying to chase down Lavell. Hammond was doing a great job and achieved third behind Koster. M. Zarevich was starting to fade but finished fourth by the skin of his teeth. Amador rounded out the top five for this close to Fourth of July spectacular green to checkered race.

NCMA Sprints will be spending the next week getting ready for a return race on Saturday, July 21 at Chowchilla Speedway. This will be the next in the Select Series which invites like 2 barrel carb 360 sprints to compete on the dirt.
