I'm looking for some input on camping and anything I might need plan for on attending the Kings Royal. I live in KS and have been using my vacation to hit the major sprint races in the nation. Last year we went to the 360 nationals at Knoxville, and this year we plan to go to Eldora. We have a toy hauler camper/trailer and plan on bringing a golf cart, but is the camping provided by the racetrack the best or is there better available. And is there any stores/restaurants close by. Thanks

go to Eldora's website (www.eldoraspeedway.com) for camping (they pretty much control it all - I believe there is some free camping avaialble, but it's first come first serve).

Unless you are willing to drive (~25 miles or more if I remember correctly to towns the size of Knoxville or larger), there are no restaurants or stores, the track is in the middle of nowhere, plan on stocking up the fridge / coolers and cooking your own or buying from the track or track vendors.

Lots have things have changed at Eldora since my last trip, but I believe they are really locking down on golf carts out there (state patrol arrests people during the Late Model Dream and World 100 for OWI on their golf carts) and you must buy a permit to operate it from the campground or track (and no guarantee that you'll get one as they are trying to limit the # of them from what I've read and heard from people the last couple of years).

Have a great time our there, but just don't try to compare track to track and town to town with your other visits. Each track / community is different and the rowdiness factor varies depending on which race you attend (especially @ Eldora, the King's Royal is tame compared to the World 100).

I recommend coming early and hitting the Brad Doty Classic at Lima on the Wednesday before the Kings. That is the best racing you will see all weekend and well worth it!

Agreed! Lima isn't that far away from Eldora, probably a couple of hours. I go to this event every year and the track offers a lot of room for camping just go to their website and register. If you find that the price is too expensive Arrowhead campground is a little more than 30miles away from the track and they might be a little cheaper. As far as restuarants the town of Greenville might have a diner or two around but the track does do breakfast for the campers and the prices are pretty cheap.

Camping is available at the track for just $40 for the whole week. There are gas stations close as well as some good places to eat to the south 5 miles (Whistle Stop @ Ansonia) or north 8 miles (St. Henry Nite Club @ St Henry). You can get a golf cart permit for $20 but can't drive over the roads but is still fun to ride around and talk to people. If you want the full Eldora experience, stay at the track. There is not a dirt track in the country that offers the tremendous amount of camping quite like Eldora can. Someone noted going to Limaland on Wed night. That is a must! You can get on free shuttle buses from Eldora that will take you there and back!!

We stay in Greenville (not campers) and have found the area has lots to do, historic sites, kitchenaide experience etc. Check with the Darke County web site. Also besides the local resturants they have a Bob Evans, C.J. Highmarks, Sonic drive-in and McDonald's. Walmart and Kroger's and that is just in one area. Go south on 118 and turn east at the light just in Grenvile limits and that takes you to the shoping. Enjoy the experience.

I have been the past 5 years and here is my advice.

  • Arrive on Wednesday for the Brad Dota Limaland race, one of the best races of the year, they even pass in the heats & dash at this race.... no lead is safe
  • Camp across from the track at Eldora Village. It's only $35 for the site and a very short walk to the track. the sites have tons of space. The free camping area is long walk to the track.
  • Sit on the front streatch. Even if you are only 10 or 15 rows up, you can see fine. Avoid the tunrs as you get sprayed with dirt.
  • Enjoy the food and beer as their prices are extremely low. They even have a full liquor bar. I highly recommend the Tenderloin in the food truck area (turn 1).
  • Stay for the 360 races (support class to WoO), they put on a great show.

Thanks to those who recommended coming in early to catch the World of Outlaws sanctioned Brad Doty Classic at Limaland Motorsports Park on Wednesday July 10th!

Limaland to Eldora is about a 1 hr drive but we will have the St Henry Nightclub buses again running from Eldora to Limaland and back on July 10th so if you set up camp at Eldora on Wednesday you can hop on one of the 3 buses (and leave the driving to them) and enjoy the beautiful ride to LMP and back in the company of other race fans!

St Henry Nightclub is just up the road from Eldora and they serve breakfast lunch and dinner, and of course your adult beverage of choice! I highly recommend their pizza while your in the area!!!

Hope to see at Limaland!

Brad Doty

Like Brad said an hr to an hr 15 mins depending on how fast you are willing to go. I talked to my boss yesterday & he told me the salesman will be dropping off my tickets at the office for the Brad Doty Classic. I'll be getting them tomorrow as I have been off the last week due to nose surgery. Brad hopefully I'll see ya at Tim's Motorsport's Expo the 22nd or 23rd, Don't know what's going on for sure because my 50th is the 20th & I don't know if anyone is throwing me a shindig the weekend before or the weekend after. Helluva dilemma huh.

It's been a couple years since I have been to the Royal, but Lima is a must. St. Henry night club is a great place to eat and have a beverage. There also is a nice newer grocery store in St. Henry's that has everything you need for food.We don't take alot of food with us because this store has it all deli items, meat, bread, beer ice etc. Another great spot is the public pool in St. Henry 5.00 for a shower in the morning, but wait till 1:00 an it's about 2.00 or 3.00$ and you can go for a swim and take a shower too. Only 5 foot deep but a nice soak. There is a small meat market not far from the track that has great specialty meats,I believe it is on there website.Up in selina there is many moore stores and things to do they also have a wallmart, also stay across from the track, it's the best place we found. HAVE FUN !!!!

Wednesday camp at Lima for the Doty! You must go there!!! Thursday, head down to the Big E. Setup camp. Anywhere. Since you said you have a golf cart i wouldn't worry about where you're camping. Note: Eldoras camping lot is gravel, stones. The lots across street are all grass. Depending on drought season you may or may not be able to have a fire. Go enjoy the festivities at turns 3 & 4 Thursday night, usually a band for entertainment. There are plenty of good little meat markets in the small surrounding towns within 15 minutes. We often only take our bare essentials and then make a quick trip to town each morning and grab some meat for grilling. Just get there, once you're there you can ask about anyone around you for pointers and they'll get you pointed in the right direction.

The Doty classic on Wed. is a must and the bus ride with the race fans is a hoot especially if you like a cold one or two...If not the drive isn't that bad from the campground which is where you should stay...If you want to make your trip even better I would check out a USAC Indiana speedweek show which is going on that week...

I think Indiana Sprint week begins at Gas City which is the same date as the Night before the Kings Royal. frown
