First time watching Midgets run and first time in The Sandbox and I was very impressed with the show, other than the fumes it was a fun place to be. Also was cool seeing guys like Dave Darland, Tracey Hines, and John Stanborough in attendance. Big fans of those guys. Any word of the midgets coming back during the summer for a show or two? I've heard they are running Micros there this year.

I was thinking of going (only a half hour from here) but couldn't find a phone number to find out if they would allow me access to the infield now that I'm not writing a column for the Racing Connection anymore. The Racing Connection has always setup my arrangements for the past 15 years so I realized at the last minute that I didn't have a way to contact them. I'm not interested in sitting in the stands to watch races, either I'm shooting or I stay home and do something else. My son called me around noon and asked if I was going to the Midget races. I told him my situation so we decided to get a case of beer and a Savoy's pizza instead. We had a good time watching the Nationwide race and the Wild game but I was at the first Midget race in 2008 and that would have been my first choice but I didn't want to drive all the way out there without being sure.
How was the crowd? I watched one of the interviews and the driver mentioned something about getting more people out there next time. Last time the ventilation was bad but I understand they improved it although the comments I saw online talked about the fumes and I read something about two clogged vents that were cleared out for Sunday. The racing had the potential to be pretty good back in 2008 but the I don't think they had more than 16 or 18 cars. Hope there were a few more this time. Let me know what you thought and maybe a few others will give us their take as well.

P.S. I do have a 2013 media pass from Hawkeye Racing News as a photographer and haven't severed my ties writing and shooting for Flat Out. I'm just not accustomed to making my own arrangements because I never had to do that so I didn't check until too late in the game and came up short on phone numbers. Not complaining and don't have my hand out but photography and doing writeups are the things I enjoy most about the races. I already had resigned myself to a few of my favorite shows so if something works out where I can do more it will be a bonus.
I was considering the Micro deal for this Sunday only (family stuff Saturday) so we'll see how it goes and maybe I'll get to see the place. Hope they did well enough to do it again because I sure hated to miss this one.
