CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS OPEN 20TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON SATURDAY AT PERRIS!

(Placentia, CA, March 6, 2013) The California Lightning Sprint Car Series will open its historic 20th anniversary season this Saturday night, March 9th, at the "Sokola Shootout" at the "Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing," Perris Auto Speedway.
Joining the CLS on the card will be the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the PAS Senior Sprints. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.

Saturday's season opener will unlock the fight for the 2013 CLS championship and it is going to a wide open battle. Lomita's Bobby Michnowicz, who won the 2012 title, will not be defending the crown in 2013. Instead, he will be splitting the driving duties at the CLS races
with his teenage son Kevin.

A trio of drivers lead the early predictions as possible 2013 champions. Corona's Steve Limon,
Dan Hillberg of Placentia and Guy Maresch of Anaheim Hills are the odds on favorites to succeed Michnowicz. Limon, who spent 27 months in Iraq while serving in the United States Army, was the 2011 CLS Rookie of the Year and finished second to Michnowicz in the 2012
championship. He was only 55-points behind the leader when the final checkered flag ended the season. Hillberg, who began racing with the USRC Midgets in the 1970's, ended up third in the standings in 2012 and like Limon, he won one main event. Maresch, who has
recently started building racing engines, led the championship standings for much of the 2012 season before ending up fourth, just 26 points behind Hillberg.

After Saturday's opener on the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval, the CLS will stay busy in March heading to the Bakersfield Speedway for the first round of the "King of California Mini Sprint Challenge" on March 16th and onto the Ventura Raceway on March 30th.

For 2013, cars in the CLS will be carrying transponders and they will qualify at all events. The
driver with the most fast qualifying times at the end of the season will win the "Cold Fire West Qualifying Championship" and will pocket an extra $500.00. Another new sponsor to the series this season is Extreme Muffler. They will sponsor the "Extreme Muffler Heat Race Championship" and the driver with the most heat race wins will collect a $500.00 check.

The California Lightning Sprint Car Series would like to thank series sponsors Christian Stover Foundation, Rod End Supply, Cold Fire West, Sander Engineering, Saldana Race Products, DK Machining and Fabrication, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Hoosier Racing Tires, Circle Track Performance, Extreme Muffler, Performance by Rosson Racing, Electro Tech Powder Coating, Oil Twins Amsoil and Haul Ass Fuel. If you or your company would like to become part of the California Lightning Series for the 2013 season, please call Dan Hillberg at: (714) 719-0295.
