Per IBRACN.com David Hesmer is coming out of retirement and will be running the Brian Sundby car (the 38 that Wayne Johnson drove a couple years ago) @ Knoxville in 2013.

They will run for the 410 points title weekly at Knoxville. Hessmer is a multi time 360 track champ and is all time winningest driver in the 360 division but this ride will be a 410

A friend told me about this a few weeks ago and I thought he was crazy. Of all drivers Hesmer is not one I expected to get back in the seat. Great news & wonder if he'll be running a parker?

This is great news. Can't wait for April 20th to get here! Anyone know what Hesmer has been up to these past few years? I have not heard of him hopping in a sprinter in a long time.

That is awesome! You'll never meet a better bunch of people in the pits than the Hesmers. Best of luck to ya Dave! Can't wait to meet up and have a beer with Sarah after the races like old times.

David is one of the good guys in this sport, both him and his Father. He hit the track running when he first started and had lots of success early in his career and I hope he continues his winning ways down the road. When I used to visit good ol' Duane Davis (a legend in this forum) up in Marshalltown I generally got to stop in to say Hi to David, great memories....

I must have missed the part about it being a 410, that changes my overall view.
David is a GREAT ambassodor for sprint car racing and was head and shoulders above everyone in the 360 class when he raced (and right off the bat as a rookie at that), but in his forays into 410 racing, he has never shown the same talent as he did in the 360. Not sure why, maybe it was the teams he was with back in those days.
Great to see that he is returning to the seat though, sprint car racing NEEDS more people like the Hesmer's in it.

sprintcarfan1,
I haven't seen you on here for awhile. How's the business going? I'll stop by your shop next time I'm in your area.

This sounds like good news...Always great to see a multi time champion back...I'm not sure on this at all but does anyone know if Mr. Hesmer is Posse? It says he has won often?

Good news. Knoxville needs 410 drivers. The 410 s are on top of the food chain and it would be nice to get back up to 30 cars a week.

It also wouldn't surprise me to see purple "Shox" on the car. David generally helps Sammy when he is in the area. If you look at Chili Bowl photos you will see him as part of the crew.
I anticipate he might have access to some recent set up notes that will be helpful.

I wouldn't be suprised either...If I was running a Sprint Car I would want the purple shocks on my car as well. They seem to really work well.

Dave was racing when I was a very little kid. Anyone know how old he is? I had thought Dave retired kind of young because of injuries. I think I remember a wicked crash on the backstretch that beat him up pretty bad. Messed up his vision or something. Anyone remember. Thought he retired shortly after that. Came back for a couple years, then retired permanently. Well...almost permanently.

I'd guess Dave to be in his late 40's now. Yes he has retired twice. Once after a terrible ride down the backstrech. He was not only one of the best 360 drivers I've ever seen but one of the best sprint car drivers I've ever seen. Good luck Hesmers!!

Be out after WOO West Coast swing Brian your new team is causing quite a stir. Not looking forward to Knoxville humidity and fly's but will be fun helping you and the two drivers looking forward to it. Do me a favor and stock the fridge with diet coke and lets get to work!! See ya soon.
P.S. We still doing the black, red and white deal?

Anyone know when Knoxville kicks off and will this team be ready on opening night? Any word on sponsors, or what the power package will be...???

Opening night is April 20th... I'm guessing they'll be ready. It'll likely be a similar setup to what Sammy had last year (Parker/Maxim/Super Shox) - not 100% sure on the shocks. I think they're still looking for (more?) sponsors.
