The internet is lit up with word of a female car owner getting run over at Canyon Speedway in Arizona and there was NO AMBULANCE ON SITE. Can anyone confirm this? Isn't USAC one of the oldest and largest sanctioning bodies in the nation? Who in the hell is stupid enough to let sprint cars run at full speed without an ambulance on site?

I have no idea about the ambulance situation, I havn't found the "lit up internet" myself, but I am transcribing this verbatim from the USAC/CRA Facebook page:

From Jim Powers> "I have been asked by Mr. Moose to please update everyone on Mrs. Moose (Laurie Sertich). As many of you have heard, Mrs. Moose was involved in an accident at Canyon Speedway in Peoria, AZ. She has suffered multiple fractures of various bones in her body, contusions, scrapes, bruising, etc. Mrs. Moose is currently in the hospital. We are waiting for her to see several doctors...today. SHE IS STABLE but in a lot of pain. Her directive before being transported last night, which was again confirmed this morning by Mr. Moose is that we continue to race this weekend because the Moosemobile was very fast in practice. Please keep Mr. and Mrs Moose in your thoughts. I will continue to post updates when they are available

Mind you she was run over by a push truck. Broken leg, Chest pains and cuts to the face. Air lifted out and for anyone who has been to Canyon you know its not close to anything.
I don't aim to please.
I aim to hit the target.

Oh so she was only "run over by a push truck"...that's good news.

Only "multiple fractures of various bones in her body, contusions, scrapes, bruising, etc"...that's good?

"Canyon isn't close to anything"....perect reason NOT to have an ambulance on site. Was the helicopter waiting on site?

Guess I was just overreacting

By internet I meant approx. 30 different post's on FaceBook. Sorry

I can't imagine ANY track allowing even one car at race speed on their track without ER people PRESENT. Present as...actually there...not a helocopter ride away. Now, where's those NASCAR lawyer types that like to sue????

If this did happen, everyone should be outraged. However, it was not a USAC event. It was a practice night put on by the track. If you want to be outraged, make sure you are directing your rage at the proper group.

Well said JonR - some people get on here and start blasting away without having their facts straight. Was this this a tragedy deserving of anger and held responsibility? Yes Was it a USAC event? No

If they don't have an ambulance there when you arrive you can always turn around and leave.

First, I wish Laurie a quick, speedy, and complete recovery. The presence or lack thereof of an ambulance would not have prevented the accident.

The scheduling of the ambulance is the responsibility of the track and promoter, not the sanctioning body. When the track and promoter sign an agreement with a sanctioning body, inherent within the agreement is the stipulation the track and promoter will provide all safety teams, track maintenance crews, and all required personnel to properly stage an event.

Further, in a practice event, the driver and team retain the option of leaving the car trailered until all safety procedures are effected.

Again, my thoughts to Laurie (one sweetheart of a lady) and wishes for a full recovery.

PS: I was at OCIR when Prudhomme went after the track promoter CJ Hart with an EMPTY fire extinguisher after Herm was so badly burnt. We trailered our car, not returning to OCIR until the promoter was fired and all safety personnel were properly equipped and trained.

That is the truest statement yet. The drivers are ultimately responcible for there own safety. BUT...this didn't happen to a driver at speed on the track. It happened at the track by a "track" vehicle, it could have been before the ambulance should have been there for the drivers, we don't know all the facts.

I hope for a speedy recovery to "Mrs. Moose". And hang tough Mr. Moose and team!

Sean,

Tucson.

Great post. It is easy for all of us keyboard junkies to jump to all kind of conclusions. Sometimes, there are legitimate reason to get upset. Other times, we become conspiracy theorist and just make stuff up.

If the owner was hit while the cars were lining up to go practice on the track, we should be outraged. If the owner was hit at 4:00pm because it is early in the year and somebody wanted to put a tune up on thier motor, we might want to re-think our outrage.

She was hit while standing by her car,the push truck driver was going to fast as he was coming around to push off the next car when he hit her. This all happened while practice was being run.

Nobdy knew that there was no ambulance onsight until the accident happened.
