Mr. Elmer was the father of Terry Gray & Amy Swindell. He was a local racer who was one of the best of his day. May he rest in peace with his lovely wife Mrs. Shirley.

I see an Elmer Gray has 4 Sprint/Super Modified feature wins at Port Royal in PA. Is it Memphis Elmer, or somebody else?

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess it was Memphis Elmer. Not saying there couldn't have been two Elmer Grays, but the Memphis one was very good and the guys from Memphis did travel to other areas and race back in that day.

So sorry to hear this! I was raised at Riverside Speedway back in the early 70's and always enjoyed watching Mr. Gray in a "B" car. It was a heck of a class to watch with many family ties in it. The Swindells, Grays, Hoyt Alexander and his son Eddy, Hooker Hood, just to name a few. So many great drivers came from there back in the day. Bobby Davis Jr., Lee Brewer Jr., Ricky Hood, Ronnie Daniels, Hoyt Hodnett and son Gregg, just to add to the list. I would love to see them bring back the 410 sprints and see if it could produce that caliber of drivers again! RIP Mr. Gray and thanks for the memories!

There was two Elmer Gray's Port Royal late model driver, Tim Gray's father was Elmer... This is the Elmer that has the feature wins at Port Royal. He was a member of the Penn Central Racing Ass.. The group that brought auto racint to the Port back in the 50's
