GAINES TAKES FIRST OF THE SEASON !!!

BLOOMINGTON, IN (July 7, 2007) - No matter what happens in an evening of racing at Bloomington Speedway, the majority of the crowd has come to see the Safety - Kleen sprint cars. Of course, It isn't always the best race; however, it is, more often than not, the most exciting program.

Danny Holtsclaw drove from his third place starting position to win the first heat. Thomas Meseraull drove from dead last to finish second and take second pill from the bag. He would start no farther back than eighth. Scott Hampton and young Kenny Niflis didn't get to participate in the redraw; but they were locked into the feature.

Jeff Bland, Jr. drove to an impressive win from his sixth place starting position. Arin McIntosh started on the pole and held off everyone except Bland to take the other position in the draw. Thirteen year old Coleman Gulick finished third followed by another youngster, Dakoda Armstrong.

The tough luck award for the night would have to go to Hanford, California's Chad Boespflug. He got up into the cushion. The front end took a set; and the back end didn't. He took a nasty flip; but he crawled out of the car uninjured; but his night was done. His grandfather and car owner, Bob Gatten, is going to have some work to do before Indiana Sprint Week begins.

When racing resumed, Dickie Gaines drove to the heat race win trailed by Andrew Prather, Lance Grimes, and Kent Christian. At the start of the season Christian had driven the 11p before turning it over to Gaines. Kent looked for another ride for a couple of weeks before he rolled out his old !c. He got off to a good start when he drove to the final transfer spot.

In the final Safety - Kleen sprint car heat race, Jon Sciscoe out-dueled Joe Roush to the win followed by Kevin Briscoe and Todd Kimmell.

A.J. Martin led the "B" feature flag to flag while John Paynter came from sixth place to finish second. Shane Golobic and Blake Fitzpatrick took the final two transfer spots.

Dickie Gaines and Jon Sciscoe started side by side on the front row of the feature with Joe Roush and Jeff Bland, Jr. behind them. On the fourth lap Danny Holtsclaw passed Roush to take fourth.

Lap after lap Gaines, Bland, and Siscoe battled.for the lead. Bland passed Sciscoe to take second place on lap 11; and he passed Gaines on lap 15. However, four laps later, Gaines moved back into the lead; and he held it until the checkered flag waved. Bland held on to finish second; and Sciscoe finish third. John Paynter came from his 18th place starting position to finish fourth and take hard charger honors as well. Kevin Briscoe rounded out the top five.
