I know a lot of modifieds and late models use the plastic brake lines, never had the nerve to try them on a sprint car. Anyone else tried them? Had an old timer here locally tell me that's all he's ever ran, the $34 kit you can buy and never had any issues. I've always been afraid of the plastic getting hot and breaking down but maybe they've got that issue covered?

We tried plastic for a few nights. The first night was on a short track. I didn't noticed a difference from kevlar to plastic. But, the bad part is there is no way to run them safetly out of the way of the header and rear inboard. They will fail at some point. Ours luckily failed at Terre Haute where brakes weren't an issue. If your headers or inboard get hot, they're going to fail...

we always run a steel OEM line from front to back, then braided to front and back brake. works great

I know quite a few guys that run the plastic on asphalt Midgets out this way. No one that I know has had a failure with it. I am a bit timid about using it on my Sprinter however as I can not see how it is going to survive the rocks and mud that it would get pelted with, let alone the heat. I think we will stay with the steel lines to the braided set up. Don't fix it if it ain't broken.

What caused yours to fail?

Maybe I'm missing the point somewhere but I cannot see where the brake temps would be any higher than a mod on a short track. I see plenty of IMCA mods glowing rotors and it doesn't seem to affect the line any on those cars.

I understand the header deal, obviously you would want to run the line underneath the tubes around any headers.....maybe even put a heat shield somewhere in there.

I cannot see where the lines on a sprint car are at anymore risk than a mod. The plastic lines on mods are in direct line with the tires as well as the one crossing from the LF to the RF is usually running across the front cross member right in the line of fire.

I'm just looking at ease and making it look clean. Metal line is a pain to work with and make it look nice, plus the price of $35 or $40 to plumb the whole brake system is a perk.
