Hello everyone. I just moved back to Southern California after being away for about 8 years. When I left it was pretty much just Perris, Ventura and Bakersfield for sprints on dirt (within my driving range).
I'm really excited to see the changes that have occured with Victorville and OSS. I noticed the URA schedule seemed to be built around the USAC/CRA schedule, with a few conflicts on the 360 sprint side.
I was just curious how many of the USAC/CRA guys will run with URA? Has it been "typical" for them to break away on off weekends?
Thanks in advance....looking forward to the start of the season.

this is the first season for ura so we will see soon enough . hopefully racers will understand we need all the tracks we can get , even if they are not usac , and help support these tracks , without bias , for the better of sprintcar racing here in so-cal !

I agree - I hope they do support them at least to some degree and USAC plays nice as well.
Thanks for your reply.

I would doubt if many of the USAC teams will travel all the way to V.Ville, heck they won't even take their 300k rigs to the Central Valley!for a sanctioned race let alone to an unsanctioned show at V.Ville or OSS.
Ihope I'm way off base on this.but we'll see.

Check out the Tulare thunderbowl schedule also kings speedway in Hanford . They are still in SAMEDAY driving to and from and great racing at both places. I drive from orange co to and from these two tracks and in my own bed late the same night.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

Thanks! They are on my "hitlist" - I haven't been to either track. I was stationed here in the early 2000's but never made it there for one reason or another. Now that Southern California is my home I definitely plan on getting up that way r hopefully this season.

There are a handful of cars still around SoCal that simply can't afford to run with USAC all the time, but want to race just the same. The URA is an answer to that. I agree with Rob that it would be hard for me to take my car to a non-points event if I was committed to running the USAC schedule, but I still think you will see 15-18 cars at these URA events. Hey, couple heats, maybe a semi main; and a main event with the night over by 10pm. What's not fun about that? As the thing grows (if it does) you might see people that would never try to run with USAC getting cars together to have some fun. I know lots of guys that have way more money in dune buggies than a lot of people have in their Sprinters; you're just not going to run with USAC like that but you can go run a little quarter or the 3/8's up in VV and have some fun. Weekend warrior style.
I think the real measuring stick for the state of our sport is how many midget cars you see. There are just not many of them around anymore, they race for less money and cost more than a sprinter in a lot of ways so I am more interested in true midgets making a come back than I am anything else.

Regarding your first paragraph, I agree 100%. I didn't mean to imply my attendance at a URA show depended on some USAC guys being there. I was just trying to get a feel for the situation since I've been away. I'm originally from PA, but fell in love with the wingless sprints when I was stationed here several years ago. I remember some of the SCRA / USAC drama and while I didn't understand all of the politics behind it, I am hoping we don't go down that road. I just want to see good racing, whether it's URA, USAC or a non-sanctioned show. I am hopeful both parties will allow room on both schedules for fans to support.
And where I just came from, a field of 15-18 cars in the top division would have been a welcome sight. You don't need 20, 30 or more cars for a good show as long as most of the cars are competitive with one another.

Just for reference the URA is a sanctioning body with points and championships and a points fund. Not a open comp one off deal.

The URA purposely waited to announce a schedule that would have very little if any conflict for the teams and fans. Thanks Scotty

Jimmy, Noel ,and I have discussed some GRUDGE matches that would put the URA against the VRA......open wheel fans are in for quite a ride this year......SMS,Ventura,OSS,and Route 66 Motorplex have all combined to see if the open wheel clan really wants to race or just sit behind a keyboard.

I apologize if that sounded bad. Was not meant to be an attack. Just saying there will not be a shortage of open wheel racing in So. Cal. THIS year. Wherever you decide to run.....thank you for supporting open wheel racing!!!!!
