I agree on inviting a friend to a race who has never gone! We live 10 minutes away from Marsyville Raceway Park and many of my friends had no clue there was a racetrack closeby that had racing every Saturday during race season for less than $15 an adult and kids under 5 are free! If they have a good time great, if not, at least they got out and tried something new. I have 2 kids under 5 years old and I love the fact I can take them and they have a great time. For now they are free and the money I would have saved to get them in I end up spending on food so the money does go to the track either way. Of course my dad and I go to races all over California and have been doing soo since the early 80's so we love sprint car racing and if get just one person to be a fan that it is all worth it in the end. It just makes my day to see someone having a great time at the races and I have heard people say "wow these things are fast and way better than NASCAR!"

Also most tracks with local races have children under 5 getting in free! Most of the big races do charge and I think it is $15 for a WoO race. I was going to take my kids to the Monster Truck show but for the whole family it was more money than I wanted to spend for bad seats. I told my kids sorry we would go to a sprint car race instead and my poor kids thought I meant that night. They were soo bummed when I told them there were no races for a while because sprint cars don't race in the winter! I only have about 1 month to go until the first race of the season at Marsyville!

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

I use to get free tickets to the Nationals NHRA at whatever they call it now in Indy. Vendors or should I say sponsors, mainly oil companies gave them away. Not the promoters of the venue. Never did go. But when they started to have them at night I wanted to go then. Then I could not get them anymore because the buyers all wanted to go because of the light shows and cooler.

after driving for several years now I always get a kick out of showing a newbie the highs and lows of the sport, when up close and personal, this sometimes become difficult with a nights festivities and results, BUT, the look on someones face when a group of 410's wrap through the corners at ground zero is Halarious! watching from the infield is something i strongly recomend to any sprint fan. Know your distances watch out for yourself, and give the competitors thier personal space during competition, I happen to be one of those that enjoys explaining a sport im passionate about.

^ all great points^ agreed! I've had good luck introducing 'dirt virgins' to sprint car racing. I believe I've taken over 20 or so people to their first dirt track race. it helps that I live in a big city & have a pretty big 'network' of people to implore. Anyone I know that appreciates any type of motorsports, I work on 'em. Every year the closest WoO show is right around my birthday, so I ask, in lieu of a birthday party, a bunch of dudes I know go with me. last year 5 of them were first timers. Everyone loved it, asked to be included in 2013. I buy a block of good seats (just past the start/finish line, near an aisle, as high up as possible), & have them pay me cash the day of the race. I also make sure everyone brings safety glasses as well, & I try to have a few extra cheap $3 hardware store shop glasses on hand just in case. I'm going on about this, because doing this is one of the most enjoyable experiences in my life, 1 day of the year, every year. I get to see the look on someone's face, the first time a few drivers throttle a 410 in the first hot lap session. :D I wish SLS gave me a small break on tickets, buying in bulk & all, way ahead of time!

That moment still gives me chills, everytime. Even if There was a race just yesterday. It is cool seeing that look though, for the receptive person it's instant captivation, like fear and intrigue and that brief view of their inner child. the whole nine. Have you ever seen the ones that are texting and absolutely oblivious to anything pertaining to what's going on in front of them? Never could get that. Anyhow Thanks for kinda putting that in print, I'd never thought about it enough I guess.

My favorite way is to write up a cheat sheet with who's who to watch and why, and let them read over it on the way. Then, especially if at Knoxville, wait until hot laps have started and let them walk through entrance from under the stands with the cars at speed just on the other side if the fence. The look on most of their faces is priceless and most weren't expecting anything near that fast.

How do you sell anything. It has got to be the cool thing to do, or the latest, greatest product on the market. You have to get the cool kids to go, and the rest will follow. Free for little league baseball and youth soccer teams. Boyscout and Girlscout night at the track. If you give to the kids now, in 10 years about 20% will be weekly fixtures at their local tracks, and another 30% will come back from time to time. It would also be cool for the group of kids to meet the drivers so they have a face to put with the cars.

I forgot to mention this! A couple years ago, the weekend before the indy car race here in Milwaukee, they had a few cars fire up & roll through downtown. I though it was a great promotional ploy. Can you imagine doing that with Sprint cars?! It would definitely get people asking questions, curious. Other than that, I believe marketing it to people that are 'in to' other forms of racing would help. More cars at other events with information about schedules and sanctioning bodies in the area. Also, hot girls & free beer!

Start them young and make it easy for new people to say yes. Our family takes advantage of knoxville's discounted punchcards. Each of my teenage kids gets a card and they use them to get their friends in and introduce them to racing. Also, if tracks pass out free tickets to kids at schools or other venues you'll be surprised to see how many talk their parents into going. And some percentage will try it for the first time just because it's a free, no risk activity. Whatever is gained in concessions is more than if they didn't come...and for the ones that have fun and come back again, the track has gained new fans that were well worth the investment of a "free" ticket.

Absolutely agree TW. Even though kids tickets are only $3 for younger kids people like a 'free' ticket. If a driver were to visit a school for a career day or science day and pump the kids up and give out tickets those kids would be home driving their parents crazy to go. Let a good show sell it from there. Many would be back. Knoxville does a good job getting kids involved with the cheap kids tickets and some special free nights for Little League and 4H. KRCO probably gets more young people involved than any other by having them sell 50/50 tickets in the stands. Part of it goes to their club(youth football, cheerleaders, baseball, ect) and the rest goes to a fund for the drivers. The kids feel involved and are doing an important job while staying to see the races for free.
