What's the status of traction control these days. Don't hear anything about it anymore. Did the powers to be just give up trying to regulate it and everyone uses it, or no one uses it. Whats happening?

looking at the website, it appears to be more affordable ($ 2195 by selecting a winged sprint car from the website "what do you race link".
a well hidden unit could easily save thousands of dollars resulting from a broken driveline / over rev situation...not to mention preserve tires on abrasive tracks.
until we see a lifetime ban handed down, I guess it is every man for themselves!

It's out there and people are using it. I think the sanctioning bodies just gave up looking for it because it's next to impossible to find.
You can usually tell who's running it because they spend all night re-adjusting the valves.

By the way, the traction control company is still in business because sales are brisk.

I'd like to believe that traction control is the exception to the rule, but this thread kinda makes ya wonder.
Is it time to ban the MSD (Electronic Type) magnetos?
Here's a Vertex mag that is supposedly better than the MSD type! See link below;

That would be a step in the right direction. Still I'm sure the traction control companies could find a way to make it work with those mags too.
The only way to really get rid of traction control would be for the tracks to supply the mags and mag boxes. That will probably never happen because most tracks wouldn't be able to afford 30+ ignition systems for everyone. Not to mention everyone would have to install them and set the ignition at the track every night before racing starts.

Or, just a thought but, why not just make it legal for them to use and then the playing field would be level and people wouldn't have to speculate that the winner won because he's cheating and using it. If you want to buy it and use it, do it, if you don't believe its an advantage then don't. Whether someone has traction control or not, the team that can hit the setup dead on is still going to be the class of the field, I have hard time believing that traction control is going to make a poorly setup car better than a car that hits the setup dead on.
Everyone always talks about Sammy being an old guy now and still doing great, I would say a large part of that is due to knowledge of setups and hitting that small window right on in the setup dept., if Sammy ever retires from driving he could probably be a Karl Kinser for a driver with his same style of driving. No disrespect meant to Karl, just saying that with Sammy's setup expertise, I have a hard time thinking of someone that could do a better job with the right person pushing the pedals, as long as egos and personalities could stay out of the mix which may be the hardest part of the combo. Same thing with Schatz and Knoxville, he has raced at Knoxville alot and obviously him and Ricky know what to do to the car.

That would be great if they cost between $8000 and $10000. Most people are having a hard enough time being able to stay competitive. Not to mention the extra hurt it puts on the motor.
And traction control is definitely a benefit. Sammy may be a damn good driver and damn good setup guy then give him traction control and he's that much better. These guys are hard enough to beat as it is, why give them an added benefit? It's never a good a thing to change the rules to conform to the cheaters.

Yes you are cheating. How would you like to go home and tell your kids you won by cheating. If you rob a bank, and do not get caught, did you really rob the bank????

You are 100% right there Linbob, it is still cheating. Unfortunately doing things the right way falls by the way side when you are talking about racers. Even Nascrap ran a commercial where a crew chief made the statement that it was his job to cheat and Nascars job to catch him. That seems to be becoming the norm amongst competitors.

Yes! They got rid of Dish Wings & brought in Flat wings. In other words they got rid of traction control. But if you still want decent traction control call Vortex Wings. Their wing is still the best traction control device you can buy, more Outlaw victories than all their competitors combined, no wiring required.

when guys watch a video or hear a car that is supposedly using TC, do they know the difference between TC and a car running up against the rev chip?
and....if TC is being used to retard the timing under wheel spin, you are not going to hear anything drastically different different (like the car is running on 6 or 7 cyl)......the rpm's just slow down a little to try to catch up to the spinning tires.
