Has an Okie ever won a feature there? Must have....
You know, Boothill's been around 35 years or more and I was just wandering.
I know Dan Leatherman, Mike Brown and you know, I think Ray Merrill may have won a Late Model feature there before. Is Ray living in Little Rock or is Sallisaw, OK still his official hometown? Ray had a Modified last I saw.
Al Purkey from Kansas has won there. Shannon Buckingham from Tennessee's won there. Several Arkies have wins there including Donnie Barnhart.
What about in Sprints? Gary Wright had an NCRA win there and probably an ASCS race or two but maybe an Okie won a Sprint Car race there.
Eddie Martin's run there but didn't have a good night. Ended up upside down I think.
With Skaggs, Hughes, Weder, Timms, etc. expected, this could be a first!

Wow! Little before my time even! I was 13 and following dirt track racing in the northeast. 1977 was the year of my first visit to Boothill.
At that time, it was Texans Ray Ingalls, Doug Ingalls, Ronny Adams and Louisiana's Harlan Beene who were the top dogs in "A" Full Body. In "B" Full Body it was Louisiana's Tab McClure and Arkansas's Sonny Smith.

I'm not sure but it seems to me that Scott Carson won there. Or maybe I was just smokin' some of his leftovers. RIP, Scott.

This is the story as I remember it being told on the Aarron Madden deal. I'm thinking it was Boothill(asphalt)
The NCRA was formed and right out of the box Emmitt Hahn driving the Del Torrance super won the opening race at Tulsa. Emmitt was hoping to race the next NCRA show at Boothill(?) but Torrance stated that his car was racing at Tulsa when the lights were on. Had it been any other day than Saturday he might have been allowed to run there. Emmitt went down there without a ride and made an appearance but flew back to run at Tulsa. Aarron went on to dominate in what was about the only NCRA race on pavement . 50 laps(?). It was I think his only NCRA win as a driver.
This helped set the stage for Emmitt being ready for the Zink team when Howerton left for USAC.

Ashalt? Probably talking about the Shreveport Fairgrounds 1/2 mile paved oval. They raced there through the late 70s and started in the 50s. In fact, the first ever NASCAR race held west of the Mississippi was run there.
Boothill has always been dirt.

The Louisana State Fairgrounds at Shreveport was dirt. IMCA made there annual stop there in the fall. I believe it was asphalted in the mid to late 70's.

I even read that and it shows you how I well I remember.
The June 20th 1971 NCRA race at Shreveport was 1. Madden #1, 2. David Brotherton #9, 3. Melvin Rodgers #3, 4. Harold Leep #11 and 5.Bill Bookout #12.
The NCRA race in 1972 was canceled and ran instead at Oklahoma City.

Please note that I find I am wrong most of the time. I prefer to latch onto the process of discussion to find the truth. I learn a whole lot more that way.

The TV weather guy is saying 50%. I don't know if he's doing us any favors with that or not. Weather.com has stuck with 40% for the last 36 hours or so. I like that better. That's what they were calling for at Chatham yesterday and we did get a shower at 4PM but not enough to hurt much -- just started packing earlier.
Radar shows some stuff down by Lufkin and Toledo Bend. It's not huge and this time and it's moving northeast.
Some other light showers by Tyler are moving toward Dallas so that is not a factor. It's very common for summer to rain to move west so you Tyler and Longview folks, don't worry about that stuff moving toward Shreveport because it's going the other way -- bad for Dallas, good for us!
No, what we're going to have to dodge is those afternoon buildups and hope no big ones hit the track. We WILL have internet at the track this afternoon and keep you promptly posted!
We've dodged showers and raced the last two nights and the effort has been well worth it! In fact, the USMTS Southern Series is averging 64 cars the last 3 events and over 57 now for the whole 11-race season so far!
Make your Sunday evening plans now to be with us at Boothill Speedway at 7PM tonight! We "kick-off" then and like any good football game, we want you rolling home by 10:30!
Take I-20 to the western most exit in Louisiana (exit 3--the "Flying J-Love's Travel Plaza" exit!). Go north, cross the tracks, turn right, follow the signs and you're there!
Track phone: 318-938-5373 Hook's: now, 318-894-8343 after 1, 318-294-0282 Todd's phone: 515-297-3870 and unlike some of the time yesterday, no problems with cell coverage at Boothill!
It's the Battle at Boothill folks, be there!!!!
