Love the front end of the 2012 and 13 Ford Exployer and now with the Inline 4 cylinder Ecotech engine which actually puts out more foot pounds of torque than their standard V6 but slightly less HP and has an EPA rating for the FWD model of 20 city, 28 highway, I decided to build one on their website, print what I want and take it to dealer and haggle on price.
That is just plain unbelievable mileage for that size vehicle, actually amazing, BUT, when I did the build sheet, and clicked on the Ecotech engine it added $984 to the price, clicking on the standard V-6 adds nothing to the price. Then reading the details, it said "Premium Gas Recommended". Well, guess Premium is required of all turbo engines, at least I'm told that. A Google search found that you can use regular unleaded but you'll get less performance, both in mileage and in power. So, went with the standard V6.

The way Ford and all U.S. auto makers figure their own EPA milage is WAY over inflated. The truck will more likely get a lot less. Anyways, highway milage? Do people enter the highway from their driveway? The whole system is bent up. Besides our greedy auto makers build parts in vehicles with repair and replacement
a top priority. Parts are designed to wear out and need replacing. It is the American (Union) way.... I buy Jap cars for that very reason.
I tell it like I see it.

Ecotech engines are made by General Motors. Ecoboost are the Ford engines.

I still prefer the front end of my 98 Explorer...The 5.0 motor doesn't get the greatest mileage however, it still runs like a raped ape even in 10 inches of snow...
Opinions may vary...

Read on the internet how the EPA estimates these milage ratings. You'll be amazed how rediculous they are. I believe in the city ratings, there was one stop every mile. ONE STOP? Where I live you'd stop in the city 7 or 8 times in one mile. It was much worse 6 or 7 years ago when the highway rating was done at an approximate average of 55mph, now they've upped it to an average of 63mph. Who the hell drove 55 mph on the highway? Who drives 63mph? Also, the cars as most of you know, are not driven anywhere, it's all done in a government building. No one is driving the cars, they sit on a platform.
Lawlessness + liberalism = HELL - NYC, Detroit, Chicago,
Seattle, LA Who the H runs those cities.

I have the Chevy Equinox with the Ecotech 4 popper, I drove 1700 miles over the Christmas holiday and got 27.9 mpg per the computer. That was loaded up and not driving the speed limit... Oh, the 4 popper has PLENTY of power...
