Bobby should make a come back tour ! Every race I've seen in western OH would be perfect for him, 1 line, right around the bottom ! Don't get me wrong I've seen em all go high with some decent results, BUT ! , in my humble opinion the SHARK would eat em all alive !

Yeah its not the same without "Scruffy" but the big difference between him and the "Dude was Allens cars where purpose built, he didnt go for the pretty paint jobs and the clean look or that being said he probably operated on a quarter of Lasoski's budget, if you saw Bobby Allens cars he built alot of the parts that went on the race car including the chasis and it always had a rocket under the hood and he was an innovator also not just a driver. I distinctly remember toward his later years how he had the shark teeth painted on the hood and I remember the car and the helmet always looked like it was sand blasted reminisant to stories of some of Oppermans cars. To correct an earlier post not just anyone can run the bottom it takes alot of dissapline to run it like these guys can, I remember Jack Hewitt was quoted as saying "if I have to run the bottom I'll go get a real job", though not glamorous sometimes the bottom is the fastest way around while others are spinning tires on the cushion or memories of a cushion. I also remember a guy that was pretty good on the bottom when he needed to be was Wolfgang if anyone got to see the 360 Nationals back when the Wolf came out of retirement after his first accident when he beat Lasoski it was a thing of beauty. Lasoski kept frying the tires low right behind Wolfie and you could read the lettering in the corners on Wolfgang's rear tires he would run the car fast and straight and work the brakes and the throttle just right and the Dude was gettin pissed he couldnt get around him. And Scruffy used to always run the bottom when the track was wet or dry and he would make it work as well. Thats part of the reason the racing isnt the same these cause guys like the Scruff and Wolfie are retired or else some of these new guys would be taking a back seat.

Scruffy was such a prominent builder at one time. Opperman demanded that his primary car for the '71 season be an Allen chassis. He ended up going for the Hientzelman in the end but he still ran the Allen on occasion.
