You got to love this battle between Jonathan Allard, Donny Schatz and Peter Murphy. Good job Allard on another win down under.

Well that was the first time I saw sprinklers turned on during a feature race and how about Schatz being stuck like that behind the lapper for a bit there. Good racing for sure.

Thanks for the 12 1/2 minutes of very clear full-screen sprint car action. 22 degrees F here, looked pretty nice there.

Allard said in the post race he had gone with a harder tyre than Schatz/Murphy so he got stronger as the race went on. This is maybe the 5th summer he has based himself at Western Springs for our season and considers it his home track and as you can see even the best in the business struggle to beat him....

Western Springs is definitely in the 1/4 mile bullring category by American standards. Approx 35 feet wide in the straights and 52 feet in the corners with minimal banking. It was originally built in 1929 as a cinder track for speedway bikes but is now a clay surface. The Sprintcars put on a good show but the premier class is the Midgets with around 40 full Midgets and 20 F2's (similar to the American Focus class) in the pits for an average meeting.
