CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS CLOSE 2012 SEASON AT
BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS!

(Placentia, CA, November 7, 2012) Bobby Michnowicz and BCRA's Dakota "Chivas" Albright closed the 2012 California Lightning Sprint Car Series season with wins last Friday and Saturday at the 17th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway. In addition to his Friday main event win, Michnowicz also sewed up the CLS championship.

On Friday, Albright, who won the CLS/BCRA Civil War Championship in 2012, led the first lap from his outside front row starting spot over Michnowicz and Placentia's Dan Hillberg. The 21-year-old held Michnowicz back until they hit turn four on lap three. The Lomita veteran raced into the lead at that point and the race and the 2012 championship were essentially decided.

While Michnowicz steamed away towards the checkered, 2010 CLS champion Jarrett Kramer of Sprint Valley was making his presence felt. Coming from the outside of the fourth row on the start, he had the pretty #14 up to third by the end of the third circuit. Kramer went one spot better when both he and 2011 Rookie of the Year Steven Limon of Corona passed Albright for second and third. Albright quickly reclaimed the third spot.

Up front, nobody was going to catch Michnowicz and he won his seventh main of the year by nearly a half straightaway. The effervescent Kramer took the second place spot with Limon third, Albright fourth and Helendale's Jeff Dyer fifth.

BCRA's Cameron Beard, who resides in Atwater, claimed the Friday night Oil Twins Amsoil Hard Charger Award after starting 20th and finishing seventh. Kramer, Michnowicz and Hillberg won the Friday night heat races.

His win on Friday gave Michnowicz a 127-point lead over Limon heading into Saturday's finale and he needed it. His #12m car lost power on the first lap of the race and he dropped out finishing last.

Albright powered his #35 to the lead when the Kevin Winters' green flag signaled the start of the final main event of the year. Lakeside's Jim Squire III and "World Famous" Tom Downing of Lakewood were second and third at the outset. Downing, who raced 410 Sprint Cars at The PAS during the SCRA era, took the runner up spot from Squire on lap two.

Out front Albright was looking stout and he established a comfortable lead. Hillberg slipped into third on lap six. Like the night before, Limon and Kramer were motoring towards the front from their 11h and 12th starting postions respectively. They both broke into the top five as the race reached the halfway point.

Limon got by Downing, who was having his best run of the season, on lap 12. A few moments later Alex Grigoreas of Upland came to a stop out of turn two and brought out the yellow flag. During the yellow period,
Downing was forced to the infield with a broken throttle pedal cable.

When the race restarted Kramer got by Limon for second and Corona's Darren Hillberg also got by Limon on lap 15. However, they were no where near Albright and five laps later he won his first ever PAS main by nearly a full straightaway. Kramer was second for the second night in a row with Darren Hillberg third. Limon was fourth while Dyer claimed fifth for the second night in succession. Kramer was the Oil Twins Amsoil hard
charger.

Kramer, Limon and Dan Hillberg won Saturday's heat races.

Michnowicz won the championship by 55-points over Limon. Dan Hillberg, Anaheim Hills racer Guy Maresch, who lead the points for much of the season, and Dale Gamer of Anaheim rounded out the top five in the championship standings.

San Diego's Damon Arnett won the 2012 Rookie of the Year Award by 50-points over Zach Zauss of Murrieta.

The California Lightning Sprint Car Series would like to thank 2012 series sponsors Christian Stover Foundation, Rod End Supply, Sander Engineering, Saldana Race Products, DK Machining and Fabrication, Keizer
