When does it usually get released? I am curious to see if any sort of special show will be scheduled the Saturday night of the Indy Car race at Iowa Speedway.

Anything but USAC would be nice. Smile

I believe I saw something the other day and Newton has scheduled the Indy race on Sunday afternoon. Check the Indy schedule to verify.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I KNOW the Indy race is on Sunday, that is why I am curious what is going on at KNOXVILLE Saturday night. Thanks,

It would be nice to advertise a special, et al, show your Indy ticket and get in 2 for 1 to bring in some of those fans that are in town and/or have an autograph session with both Knoxville drivers and some Indy racers on Saturday night before the races. They would have more of a chance of getting an autograph here then in Newton and might bring some new fans to sprint car racing.

Yes, a great opportunity for both Knoxville and Indy to reach out to new, or reconnect with former, fans. Perhaps something at the HoF.

I highly doubt it, I would look for Newton to schedule a night race for a support division (possibly USAC) the night before the Indycar race.

From the times I've been to Iowa Speedway, it is very apparent that their goal is to get fans on the grounds on Friday and keep them there until the race is complete (either Saturday Night or Sunday). Their schedules are set up so that practices, qualifying, etc. are spread out beginning mid-morning with end times @ ~ 10:00 PM (this keeps people from going elsewhere to (1) Eat (they have to eat at the track or tailgate), (2) see other entertainment that could be more exciting or cheaper).

It's a GREAT business model. Iowa Speedway doesn't want a fan from out of town that paid $65 per ticket to watch a 2-3 hour event with 16-22 cars (Indycar) to drive down the road 30 minutes and watch 65-70 cars for $15 per ticket (and cheaper concessions) and see just as good or BETTER racing action. Those fans may decide to quit coming to Iowa Speedway and spend their $$ @ Knoxville (or Marshalltown, or DesMoines, or Stuart, or Oskaloosa, etc.) and take in multiple events a year instead of just 1.

It's the same reason why Wal-Mart tries to be everything to everyone (department store, grocery store, some have tires and oil changes, eyeglass store, photo studio, etc.). By keeping people in your store, you keep them OUT of your competition's store (Fareway, HyVee, local eyeglass store, etc.). The fear is that if they go to your competition they will find out that (1) they offer the same things at the same price or BETTER PRICE and (2) if the competition is more convenient/friendly or (3) that the competition is easier to do business with or they offer better value for the $$$.

Won't happen. Iowa Speedway and Knoxville Raceway have not wanted to work together for the last 3-4 years. There's a reason the Indy Car, NASCAR and other events run there on Saturday. In fact this season there was only 1 event on Sunday and that was the first Nationwide race.

This would definitely be a smart play. It probably won't happen though.

Well, the fact of the matter is that is the Indy Car race is on Sunday, in the afternoon so it can be on ABC. It would follow that the Indy Car practice/qualifying would be in the afternoon on Saturday so the cars can be dialed in to the track conditions. And I'm not really that concerned about the support divisions, soooo

Does ANYBODY have any INFO on what will be on the KNOXVILLE sked for that Saturday night? When do they usually announce their sked?

For sure, keep USAC out. All that side by side stuff and passing might cause the track not to go rubber down which would keep us from witnessing another winged slot car show in which we can easily ID the cars because they are so far apart.

I totally agree, who would ever want to see close side by side racing with the tyres off the ground and the car backing into the turns when you can have single car freight trains on the bottom... yes sir reeeeeeeee !!

Please keep USAC out of Knoxville. They have just about ruined everytrack they compete at. Just ask Belleville, KS.

I still remember them holding car stereo competitions, and that is where they should have stayed.

Excellent idea. Are you interested in a marketing position? I think you've got a future in it if you aren't already in that line of work. ;-)

Yes I would be and, no I am not at this time. I do think I would make a hell of a marketing manager for racing. Thanks for the compliment. (And I live a block from the track!)
