Santa Maria Speedway will again host the Bandit Sprint cars, at the 1/3 mile clay oval.
Point leader Jessie Mack, will be joined by Jayson May, Thad Bennet "Mad" Mike Baker and Mike Knopf will be again challenging champions Greg Porte, "Junkyard Jimmy" Thompson, Davey Pombo, Peter Murphey and Jeff Fiscus. The quality and furiousness of competition will be the stuff of stories into the future. These are all keen racers and will be two and three wide all night long on the smooth and racey oval. The fans have been entertained and treated to great racing action.
Last Saterday night one could have thrown a blanket over the top five race cars as Dennis Rodriguez looked as though he was going to get the win but Jessie Mack battled hard for the narrow win. Greg Porte ended up second and Jimmy Thompson came home third as D-Rod slipped back on the last lap while making an all out effort to win. Ron Wade who had a very fast car simply ran out of laps at the end or the top order would have surely been changed.
And for what might have been, star Jayson May lost an engine during hot laps and Eric Severson who had the fast time and convincingly won his heat race, faded to ninth as he missed the set up. Both are factors in any race they run and look to get back on top this week-end.
Also on tap are some VRA notables making the trip north to prepare for the Bandit-VRA Grand Slam. Rising star and Grand Slam favorite Eric Severson, with his third SMS fast time award of 2007, will be joined by, Denjnis Rodriguez, Ron Wade, Bruce Douglas as well as VRA new-comers Zak Hawthorn and Nick Boxwell among others.
Missing was Charles Turner, a gentleman and friend of sprint car racing. Hope things are OK and look to see you there.
All signs are for an exciting evening of racing and entertainment. See-ya there and please say hi.
