2012 NCRA Sport Modified Season Officially Comes to a Close!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – September 18, 2012 - This past Saturday night's Bob Howard PDC and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products southern sport modified finale that was cancelled by rain will not be made up, according to track officials Tuesday afternoon. With this announcement, the fourth season for the tour has come to a close with Enid, Oklahoma's Travis Johnson becoming the third different champion in the tour's short history.
With ten events completed on the 2012 race season Johnson, who is also the career victory leader in the southern sport modified division, won the point championship by 115 points over 2010 tour champion Todd Decker. Caleb Edwards, who claimed C&P Racing Supply rookie of the year honors as well, finished third in the final point standings, 90 points ahead of fellow rookie contender Joe Adams, who finished fourth in the standings. Tour regular Ross McCartney finished fifth.
Drivers rounding out the top ten and who will be recognized at the series annual banquet in January include: Bobby McGehee, two-time and defending tour champion Chad McNamara, J.D. Choate, Cleo Adams and Chris Lyons.
A complete recap of the 2012 race season for the Bob Howard PDC and Mopar NCRA southern sport modified tour will be available in October as well as an interview with Johnson. Also to be released next month will be details on the series annual banquet.
