NCRA Sport Mod Finale This Saturday Night at Salina High Banks!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – September 10, 2012 - The eleventh and final points race for the 2012 race season for the Bob Howard PDC and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products southern sport modified division will come to a close this Saturday night as the tour makes their second appearance of the season at the Salina High Banks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma.
And even though he has dominated the career feature victories in just four short seasons in the tour's existence, current point leader Travis Johnson is one step closer to his first career series point championship.
Armed with a 110 point lead over 2010 series champion Todd Decker, Johnson needs to qualify and finish in the top ten in the feature finale to officially claim the point championship. Add to the fact that he won at the Salina High Banks in the tour's only other appearance earlier this season; odds are good for Johnson to claim the championship.
However, as this past weekend proved, anything can and probably will happen.
Before the first heat race could be completed Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City, Chad McNamara, who came into this past weekend second in the point standings and just thirty-five points out of the lead, blew a motor which ended his weekend and has since dropped to seventh in the current point standings.
During the nights feature finale, Johnson was caught with nowhere to go when a lapped cars motor expired right in front of him while leading the feature. Johnson went pit side to repair damages, started at the tail of the field and came home with an eleventh place finish. This allowed Decker, currently in the runner up position, to close to within ten points as he was declared the feature winner on this night.
However, at Enid Speedway on Sunday night, Decker had a rough outing as he spun twice, causing him to exit the racing surface and into the pit area due to the series "two spin" rule. Decker was credited with a nineteenth place finish while Johnson went on to claim his fifth victory of the season.
Current C&P Racing Supply rookie of the year point leader Caleb Edwards currently sits third and the point standings and hopes to maintain that position as fellow rookie contender Joe Adams sits fourth in the point standings. Only 91 point separate those two in the point standings while Edwards lead in the rookie standings over Adams is a mere 12 points.
Sitting fifth through thirteenth in the standings and all looking to either solidify or get top ten in the final point standings and obtain awards and product certificates are the following: Ross McCartney, Bobby McGehee, McNamara, J.D. Choate, Chris Lyons, Cleo Adams, Landon Maddox, Mark Harrison and Courtney McCartney.
Thirty-one cars were entered in the tours previous appearance back in June and more of the same are expected this weekend.
Gates open this Saturday night at 5:00 pm with racing action set for a 7:00 pm start time.
