Decker Declared Winner in NCRA Sport Mods at 81 Speedway!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – September 8, 2012 - There were story lines a plenty as the Bob Howard PDC and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products southern sport modified division made their final appearance at 81 Speedway in Park City and after all was said and done it was Todd Decker who was declared the winner on this Saturday night.

Decker and Travis Johnson, who came into the night sitting atop the current point standings, started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature with Johnson taking the lead as the green flag fell. Joe Adams, Ross McCartney and fifth starting Elliott gave chase as quickly opened up a five car length lead after lap one.

The first caution of the feature would fall after that one lap when Andrew Wallace, Bobby McGehee, Bobby Fiest and Jason Martin all tangled entering turn one and when racing action resumed, so did Johnson's lead out front.

Johnson built a half stretch lead as he began approaching lapped traffic on lap ten. That is when his point lead would take a blow as he was coming up to the lapped car of Kyle Choate entering turn one when Choate's car would then lose the motor. Johnson had nowhere to go and collected the Ponca City driver causing damage to the #86j. Johnson would head to the pits, restart at the tail of the field and would eventually come back to finish ninth.

This would give Elliott the lead on the restart and the Clinton driver would open up a ten car length lead over Decker. However, Decker had his hands full with Chris Lyons as both drivers battled for the runner up position, trading that spot for several laps before Decker would take over that position for good with ten laps to go.

Double file restarts after spins on laps seventeen and twenty caused trouble for Elliott when the green flag fell. However, the he would use the bottom of the track to his advantage entering turn one and would pull out in front of Decker each time heading down the backstretch to stay in the lead.

The final caution would wave with four laps to go and on the final single file restart, Elliott would have no problems as he would go on to claim the apparent eight car length victory.

However, his car would fail post race inspection giving Decker and his #42 Godfather's Pizza/Bob Howard PDC sponsored Biscuitbuilt chassis his first feature victory of the season. Chris Lyons drove his best race of the season to finish a tour best second while eighth starting Cleo Adams would be credited with third and Chris Wilhite. Current C&P Racing Supply rookie of the year driver Joe Adams crossed the line fifth but would also fail post race inspection allowing Mark Harrison to round out the top five.

It was not a good night for two-time and defending tour champion Chad McNamara as his repeat title hopes took a serious hit. McNamara, who came into the night second in the point standings and thirty-five points behind Johnson for the point lead, would blow his motor during the first heat race, ending his night early.

The tour will now pack up and head down to the Garfield County Fairgrounds and Enid Speedway in Enid, Oklahoma for a Sunday night event and the next to the last points race of the season.

The series would like to take this time to thank their southern sport modified division partners and sponsors for the 2012 race season:

Bob Howard P.D.C. and Mopar, C&P Racing Supply, Park City, Kansas, Precise Racing Products, Hoosier Racing Tires and Sunoco Race Fuels
