CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINTS GO TO WAR SATURDAY WITH BCRA!
(Placentia, CA, August 29, 2012) Vowing that "The South is about to rise again," the California Lightning Sprint Car Series is gearing up for round two of the "California Civil War Series vs BCRA" this Saturday night, September 1st, at the Bakersfield Speedway. Also on the program on Saturday will be the Modifieds, Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, American Stocks and Mini Stocks. Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM and the first race will take the green flag at 6:00.
At the first "Civil War" race in May at Bakersfield, BCRA (Bay Cities Racing Association) scored a resounding win by taking the top four spots and six of the top 10 in the main event. Scott Kinney won the race on the "West's Fastest 1/3 of a Mile High Banked Clay Oval." The top finisher for the CLS was 2010 series champ Jarrett Kramer, of Spring Valley, who finished fifth.
Anaheim Hills' racer "Zoom Guy" Maresch, continues to lead the CLS standings heading into Saturday's race. However, 2011 series Rookie of the Year Steve Limon of Corona has been hacking away at Maresch's advantage. Going into Saturday Limon is only 23-points behind the leader.
Lomita's Bobby Michnowicz, the 1994 CRA Sprint Car champion and the 2006 USAC California Dirt Ford Focus Midget champ, leads the CLS with three main event victories in 2012. The veteran racer comes into Saturday's show 62-points behind Maresch. Placentia's Dan Hillberg and Dale Gamer of Anaheim round out the top five.
The month of September is the busiest one on the 2012 schedule for the CLS. After a week off following the Bakersfield race, the series will return to its home track, Perris Auto Speedway, for the annual Glenn Howard Memorial on the 15th. One week later on the 22nd, it will make its only 2012 appearance at Jim Naylor's Ventura Raceway. The month will wrap up with the final 2012 visit to Bakersfield on the 29th.
The California Lightning Sprint Car Series would like to thank 2012 series sponsors Christian Stover Foundation, Rod End Supply, Sander Engineering, Saldana Race Products, DK Machining and Fabrication, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Hoosier Racing Tires, Circle Track Performance, DJ Safety, Performance by Rosson Racing, Racing Optics, Electro Tech Powder Coating and Oil Twins Amsoil (Hard Charger Award at The PAS).
