I'm really worried that they are hiding all of this until it gets to the point that we can't stop it. We need to start putting pressure one way or the other on the city council members or fair board members or whoever controls all of this.

So, It look like Meeker is going to be the new place to race. And all you people who bitched about the SFS don't have a place to bitch about.
That's my Opinion and I'm stick'en to it.

From what I understand, there will be a track built IF this does happen.

This proposed track has nothing to do with the city or anything and it would be dirt.

Yea but David you have to admit that if the track is built in the Okc metro area the city will try to block it.
I heard a story about four to five years ago about Guthrie wanting to build a track. Guthrie got approached by Sabolich well needless to say the Okc council got wind of this and strong armed Guthrie into not building the track.

Somebody had mentioned that one of the tv stations said the MAPS3 would include a big-time racing facility. Whether that includes a dirt track too I am not sure as I never seen anything said on that myself. There was that Lake Draper "idea" that was mentioned a couple of years ago and I see that as the cities main agenda. Kick us out of the fairgrounds and also have their state of the art racing facility. The city would think they have killed two birds with one stone.
That is not the track I was told about by the way.
But the bottom line is that no matter if a track is built by the city or private investors, racing in OKC will NEVER be the same and we could very easily end up just like our Tulsa friends up North.

There is a racetrack up I-35 just south of Seward Road to the east. You can see the light poles if you look real hard while driving that stretch of hiway. It's a pond right now. I fished in it about 15 years ago. Got thrown off the property because we had permission from the wrong people. Don't know what it would take to get the thing going though. I know a person that would know the property owner's name. Don't want to divulge that right name now but would if someone was
interested in getting something done on it. I hope the city of Okc. is smart enough to acknowledge that racing could be beneficial to them if they would just back it a little through advertising like they do with some of the other sporting events they hold. Which brings an idea to me.
Would the ORA be interested in representing the racers and car owners to talk with the city about all this. Say, a committee of you guys take your concerns to them and try to help get the changes they talking about correct? If in fact there are changes being planned.
Just my opinion there. Hope I can spark ideas is all.

Unless they start the "new" track before the old one stops having races, you're still looking at a year or very likely more interim with no racetrack in OKC. A racetrack isn't built overnight, and unless someone knows of a currently closed track near OKC that could be renovated, a completely new facility would need to be built. We're talking a TON of dirt work, concrete work, buildings, plumbing, electrical, etc, etc, etc. The ultimate problem with building a racing facility anywhere near the OKC area, is the general public, and those who would whine and cry about the noise. Regardless of the fact that they have no idea how much or how little noise there REALLY would be, John Q. Public will whine. (And remember John's alias is John Voter, which means he HAS his city councilman's ear). The OKC metro is growing constantly, and there's NOWHERE that I can think of, that the city or anyone else could build a track, that wouldn't have neighbours in the next 10 years.
For example, wasn't someone trying to build a Legends track out off of 240 a few years ago? Neighbours were screaming noise who didn't have any idea what a Legends car was, or how much or little noise it would make.
Nope, best thing for ALL you OKC driver's to do, is pack up and come down to Brill Motor Speedway, near beautiful Meeker, Oklahoma, USA where the future of racing in Central Oklahoma lies!!!!
Naturally, thats just my opinion. (Slightly tongue-in-cheek).

the only way to keep OKC open and running is top get in your city councilmans ear and scream real loud and don't let up until you get a definite yes or no. if you get a no then get someone that is backing racing and run them against the p.o.b. that want stand up for his people that has put him in office. jho

LOBO this might sound like I am giving up or dont care but I do care. I admend you for saying call you councilperson and talk to them. The only problem with what you say is that there are so few of us and alot more of the non racing people. What we need to do as a racing community is to make the people aware of this, educate the people that dont know the track might be closing. We need alot more bullets in our guns than just a few die hard racers when we bring it up to the council. They are worried about $$$$$$$$$$ not rather or not they keep an old grandstand around(there eyes). If you remember a few years ago at the fair they had a board up in the Kitchens of America building of what the fairgrounds would look like w/o the track . The paper asked people what they thought about the idea and some of the people said that the entrence looked better than having the grandstands there.
Like it or not but the general public in Okc still think that the people racing at Okc are a bunch of greasy, toothless doafs that have not one sense of intelligence. At least the ones with the majority of the money in Okc.

So, I predict that if Brill Speedway can keep his track open and keep the great inprovements going, he will have the "PLACE TO RACE". YOU GO BRILL SPEEDWAY.
That's my Opinion and I'm stick'en to it.

One think they could do to change the perception of being bunch of greasy, toothless doafs is to stop putting them on TV. They need to get some of the young clean cut drivers to do some of the on camera stuff.

So, Greg, are you referring to Danny, Brandon and Lee Jennings as being greasy, toothless doafs since they were on TV last Sunday Night on Fox 25? I personally think they are very clean cut young drivers and all did an excellent job of promoting SFS!
