David Smith, Jr. NCRA Public Relations (405) 740-4769 New Track Nets Victory Lane for Hurd in NCRA Modified Feature! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Uncharted territory for the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified division made no difference to current point leader Marc Hurd as he took the lead on lap two, withstood several race long caution periods and went on to claim the victory in the tours first ever appearance at Elk City Speedway in Elk City, Oklahoma on Friday night. By virtue of an impressive heat race victory after coming from the tail of the field, Dusty Mayfield started on the pole for the twenty lap feature and quickly took the lead as the green flag fell. Gene Weaver, third starting Hurd and Greg Burt were your top five after the first lap before Hurd drove low exiting turn two to take the lead down the backstretch one lap later. The first of several cautions fell on lap three when Weaver, who won the inaugural NCRA modified south championship and picked up his lone series victory here at the speedway, came to a stop at the exit of turn four.
A couple cautions on the restart slowed the pace but once racing action resumed, so did Hurd as he quickly opened up a six car length lead over Burt once racing action finally got underway. At the races midway point it was still Hurd comfortably out front with Burt, Mayfield and sixth starting Josh Lanterman your top five. Burt would close the deficit once the leader reached lapped traffic on lap thirteen but could get no closer to three car lengths behind the rest of he way.
The final caution of the night would wave with five laps to go and would set Burt on the leaders rear bumper on the restart. But the former series champion would not be denied as he held on to take the six car length victory, his first on the season. Burt settled for second while Mayfield came home third. Lanterman finished a series best fourth while Chad Davis worked his way up from twelfth to round out the top five.
Defending tour champion Tyler Davis struggled in his heat race and had to transfer out of the "B"feature. Davis started 17th and earned the AA&A Windshield Repair of Amarillo hard charger of the race and a $100 bonus. The ten lap heat races for the thirty car field were won by Mayfield, Weaver, Burt and Dee Gossett. Conner Pullen survived a caution shortened "B"feature over Davis. 1st Heat: 1) Dusty Mayfield, 2) Marc Hurd, 3) Chad Davis, 4) Aaron Shannon, 5) Logan Cabbell, 6) Chris Cole, 7) Dan Powers, 8) Cody Gearhart 2nd Heat: 1) Gene Weaver, 2) Josh Lanterman, 3) Austin Bonner, 4) Jon Herring, 5) Jon Thompson, 6) A.J.
