I had someone vomit in the stands close to us also last time at the Nationals. It was awful to say the least.

You have to give Laney credit bringing this to light and possibly helping all race fans enjoy the races more.

Maybe they should make Laney, .......Racer of the Year.

Glad this info finally made it to you, hope it helps. My boy did get sick from seeing 'Bruce Hoyes' throwing up everywhere and thankfully it went directly below onto my feet area and not on anyone else...If it was you that offered him the gum, Thank you.

I thank God that no one has records of the old stupid shit I use to say on here back in 2004...Crap, I bet FilT does someplace.

1- Small town fire fighters are some of most rowdy f***ers you will meet in any rural state.

2- I was 25 (I 40) rows directly above this a did slightly notice it, and had I got the info would have passed it on to more than just shitty security. Shitty security is more all about make sure us row 40 people who have had top row tickets and loyal customers for 30 years take a seat. "Get in your seat or I WILL have you ARRESTED" really? the under cover you are threatening me with is the one who helped with my internship..???

while the venom directed at these puking drunks is entertaining, the Kville security team are clearly the ones with the black eye for failing to deal with this when they were called upon.

plenty of space back in the barn area to put drunks on ice until the paddy wagon arrives...

post guidelines - enforce them - send the message loud and clear by escorting offenders off the property early.

buying a ticket does not ENTITLE you to see the whole night of racing, it just gets you thru the gate.

WOW! Over 170 NEGATIVE posts about Knoxville and Drunks In The Stands at the Nationals. I hope Toby Kruse and his security crew (?) at Knoxville are reading these posts!

We need to send Toby a clear message that us paying fans will not put up with drunks and vulgar fans! It is Knoxville's responsibility to provide SECURITY for all of us.

If they wanted to make it right for you, they would pay for your family's tickets next year and offer you a formal apology. (as well as paying for your ruined clothing) Knoxville should be offering you box seats in the Hall of Fame with free food and drinks for all four nights. Anything short of that from either party falls short of making it right and I would never step foot in Marion county again. That would be how I would deal with this if it were me and my family.

That's the truth. I had row 40 seats for years. The county security WAS more concerned about having us in our seats instead of standing with nobody behind us than they were anything else. Always acting tough. Meanwhile, I had a guy that sat next to us who was an arrogant drunk that brought glass containers of booze in a backpack every night and nothing was ever said to him. Eventually, I gave up those seats because it wasn't worth the hassle and eventually quit going at all. It just wasn't worth the aggravation, especially at those prices.

Anytime there was an obvious security problem anywhere in the stands, the secuity po-po would run to the top to avoid it and take out their frustration on good, loyal people. It was such a joke.

i disagree egras.

I think the Raceway should do something for these people, yes. But I don't think the Hall of Fame has anything to do with it (they are SEPERATE ENTITIES).

If it were me I would offer the family FREE tickets and some free food and drink tickets for next years Nationals.

However, I for sure wouldn't do it publicly and here's why.

Let's say I bought tickets online and when I got to the races I was sitting beside (3) 300 lb guys on one side that don't shower and (3) 300 lb guys on the other side of me that don't shower. I've been inconvenienced (maybe not to the same level) as this family has. I go complain to security, they tell the guys they need to tighten up so I can get into my seat that I PAID FOR. I'm still gonna have these guys squishing me all week. Should I get free tickets? No, but I won't sit there again next year.

To me, it's just as much the other people sitting around this family's fault. You should have made a big stink about this group of guys as well. With all the recent bad publicity (on this forum, in Sprint Car & Midget Magazine, etc.) for Knoxville's Police, the State Troopers and Sherriff's Department about how they all OVERSTEP their authority and write "phantom citations", maybe this year the thought was, "we'll give people a warning first, but if we get called to the same area for the same person more than once, we'll have to escort them out".

From what I've read, there was only ever ONE complaint and that was to a security person in a Red shirt (they literlally have ZERO AUTHORITY, they are a citizen the same as you and me, go find the SHERRIFF the second time and if there are 50 of you saying these guys are drunk, have a bottle of XX that they brought in from the outside, and they are puking on people, the Sherrif would REMOVE them from the property (heck, the guy 3 rows in front of me @ the 360 Nationals was amost removed from the property and he was far less drunk, but didn't cause any more problems after the Sherrif spoke to him the first time).

vande77,

I agree with you about free tickets to next years Nationals and they should also pick up the hotel room too.

As for faulting the others sitting around these folks, I strongly disagree. These offending slugs were reported to Security, being track security or police is doens't matter. It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the track to provide safety for all fans. Would you really want the people sitting around the slugs handling the situation???

Knoxville Security/Police is totally, 100% at fault for not addressing and handling this situation. They chose to stick their heads in the sand which is totally unacceptable. As for other incidents, I sat on the back stretch on Thursday nite with my son and 7 year old grandson and there was a guy sitting behind us that was drunk and using a lot of profanity. I asked him to please watch his language which he did for about 10 minutes, then it was back to F this and F that. I told security but they never even came up to observe the situation, let alone say something to the guy. Let's put the blame directly where it belongs, on Knoxville security!

If the Knoxville management wants to see how to fix this issue they should go to Duquoin Silver Crown race and sit in the stands. The answer is obvious. The grandstand has Illinois State Troopers on the main walk way - there is no infringing on anyone's fun by anyone else.

We have attended the Duquoin race for years and never seen anyone drunk and creating a public hazzard.

I think you misunderstood what I mean.

The Fairgrounds Security people have NO AUTHORITY to remove someone or detain them. That power lies with the Sherriff's Department, that's my point. Someone making minimum wage is not who you need to be seeking out in these instances, it's the sherriff's department (and they weren't that hard to find, they were at the top of the stands in the main grandstand and underneath the grandstands). Fairgrounds Security can only do so much and in many instances have ZERO chance of doing anything with an individual that is drunk (the fairgrounds security are generally female or retired people.

I have been to events @ Wells Fargo Arena, Cyclone Stadium in Ames (College FB), Hilton Collesium (College BB) and one thing has always been consistent. When it came time to have someone REMOVED from the premesis, it was ALWAYS a Law Enforcement Official, it was never the Security or Staff of the venue.

As far as my comment regarding the other folks sitting around, i meant this: If the sherriff comes up, asks some questions, yet you remain silent in the matter (which apparently everyone else did when they wer up there), it's a "he said/she said" deal. Maybe they warned the guys that if they got another complaint that the Sherriff would remove them. No one complained a second time, so nothing was done.

The power of many will always overpower the few that are causing trouble. If everyone else in your section on the backstretch would have told the guy to pipe down he probably would have, but the way it sounds, it was only you who did. Again, what's Fairgrounds Security going to do, it's a "he said/he said" deal. Multiple compaints and I'm sure something would be done.

I personally have NEVER had an issue in the last 20 years or so during the Nationals. (and I can say we have a fan or two that get rowdy near us as well). My 9 year old son made it through his 3rd Nationals and he can't wait for another one to get here.

Point well taken on keeping anything Knoxville raceway would do under wraps and not going public. Also, I am not saying Knoxville raceway would be able to "give" them tickets to the boxes in the Hall of Fame. I am saying they can "get" them tickets in the boxes in the Hall of Fame. They do have the ability and the pull I am sure to get this done, even if they have to purchase them.

As for the security, after the single complaint is issued, that red shirted security guard should have gotten someone who DOES have the authority to remove these jack-asses. It is in no way anyone else's fault but the jackasses causing the problem and the Knoxville security (or lack thereof) and is in no way the fault of those sitting around them. That I have to disagree with you on. We cannot make this the fault of the victims like is being done so much in society now.

I also agree with you that Knoxville (town and raceway) is in a tough spot as far as how to handle these situations and where to draw the line. They don't want to come off as being fun-haters by escorting every single person out who isn't 100% in line. Especially with the bad pub. they have gotten from last year's event. I don't know what the answer is but it is going to please some and piss off others when it is said and done, that is for sure.

Agree with all points.

But, from what every post is saying, Security was only alerted once, not twice. My guess is that the second complaint would have drawn in the Sherriff's department. Fist offense must have been a warning.

I am not faulting those sitting around the situation at all. However, if they don't speak up for the family when security is there (or go make a complaint as well), they might as well have been empty seats, they didn't do anything (like reporting the guys to security), they just sat there and watched...

It's a tough spot. Let's say I just don't like you (I don't even know your real name, so obviously I can't say I do or don't wink ), I go complain to security that your being obnoxious, rude, and you puked on your way up to your seat. Do you want to them to immediately call the Sherrif and have you escorted out, or should they go up there, talk to you and say we received a complaint about you specifically, if we receive another, you will be removed from teh premesis. I for one hope I get a warning first, someone might complain about me because I was wearing a (insert driver's name here) shirt and they don't like that guy.

I hope the Raceway adds in a texting feature like you see at almost all professional stadiums throughout the country, but the bottom line is those things cost $$ and in teh current economy and the fact that the track is more than likely losing $$ on every weekly show, it's not gonna be a quick fix (unless they can get Kenny's Bail Bonds or whoever it is that advertises on WHOTV to sponsor it (that would be a good tie-in don't you think)).
