Blaney and Henry both broke in hot laps...neither attempted to qualify...yet Henry is 4 points ahead? if this is correct, I don't understand Knoxville AT ALL!!!!

More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

They took a green flag which qualifies them for points throught the night.
Correction on O'Connell & Blaney though.

Since they made an attempt at hot laps, they are essentially credited with being there and awarded points based on "finishes" for each event. There were only 48 cars on Wed., so Henry got credit for 48th time trial points, 10th heat points, and 8th C-Main points. There were 50 cars on Thurs. O'Connell drew a lower number and would have gone out to time trial first, so he received 49th time trial points while Blaney received 50th. Both received 10th heat points. Because he was awarded 49th, O'Connell received 9th C-Main points while Blaney received 10th. That's why the points aren't equal for the 3 cars that scratched for the night in qualifying.
Knoxville didn't used to do this. If I remember correctly they used to only award points for actual events attempted, although I'm not sure if it was consistently enforced that way. This way everyone who comes through the gate and tries to run hot laps is at least accounted for. Regardless, the new format eliminates the points for these guys and they can race their way to their Saturday starting spot.
