I personally love this idea. I love that it is a bit of a throwback to the Race of States with the quick qualifier from each state/province/territory getting an entry spot. And the fans doing the revenge draw is a great way to get the fans involved and will make for an incredibly interesting starting lineup. Glad Knoxville is adding in an idea to make this event unique!

The only thing that can fix Sunday night would be to take the wings off. Heading down Saturday for the week but if the weekend schedule stays the same in 2013 we'll be saving out money and come down Monday instead.

The original line-up had USAC on Saturday Night with the 360 Nat's finale.
From what I heard, purse was the same for USAC as what their Sunday show has been in years past, but USAC didn't want to be the "support class" and their office personnel didn't want to race here if they didn't get top billing.
What can Knoxville do about USAC officials not wanting to be here??
To me, this is why USAC is a terrible sanctioning body. Instead of swallowing their pride and being the "support class" and racing in front of 10,000 people (only 1/2 of which ever came on Sunday night BTW) and trying to GROW their fanbase, they decided to go to a track where they draw well with their core base already. How is that GROWING YOUR FANBASE (which should be the goal for ALL sanctioning bodies)?
Could Knoxville have run them on Sunday and had a regular 410 show with the 360's like years past? Sure, but the Sunday USAC show wasn't working, Fans were in Knoxville, but they were skipping Sunday's show (~1/2 of what was attending on Saturday and less than what attend Thursday and Friday of 360 Nationals). This was a way to give USAC a bigger crowd, and bring in a big crowd on Sunday as well (and let's face it, EVERY racetrack is struggling in the current economy, they need as many $$ making shows as they can get).

Completely agree with everything you wrote Vande. All politics and squabbling between ASCS, USAC and the speedway aside, I guess I only care about what I personally get to see on the track. 8 nights of winged cars at Knoxville doesn't do it for me. Saturday and Sunday are simply a far lesser value for me in the current format and will ultimatley determine how I choose to spend my money. We have the USA Nationals at Cedar Lake that same weekend and the PGA Champions tour is golfing 3 miles from my house so we'll probably hang closer to home and attend those events next year.

Bingo. It is truly unfortunate that sanctioning bodies and racetracks can't always come to agreements. It is just the hand we as fans are dealt. I suppose those who wish to get their non-wing fix can make the drive can go down to US 36 Raceway on Sunday night.

USAC is at US36 Sunday and both Nights at Oskaloosa, you could get 9 Nights of wing racing and 3 nights of Non-Wing all in the same 10 day stretch.
But, even though this is a sprint car forum, I'll say this. I'd have a really hard time passing up the USA Nationals @ Cedar Lake if I was in that area too.

The crowd for the USAC races on Sunday were not as bad as they 360 prelim nights, haha
Granted they weren't as good as the 360 Nats, but that's asking alot.
I do agree with the comments about USAC being too high and mighty, they should have stayed with the date, but oh well.

To me, it's still about the politics and hard-headedness. Why would you not want to GROW your fanbase by exposing your racing to a new group of fans (it's obvious that only 1/2 of those in attendace on Saturday Night was coming for the Sunday USAC show (maybe they've never seen non-wing racing and didn't want to shell out $20 to "try it out" .

I have to admit. I wasn't overly enthused about USAC at kville a couple years ago. (I had not previously really seen many USAC shows)... But I tell you what, this is my 16th consecutive knoxville nationals and I'm BUMMED out there's no USAC show on Sunday night. It had become my favorite night of the week. The best winged racing in history couldn't come close to what the racing quality was on Sunday night.

Exactly my point. It had to be there for you to try it and GROW their fanbase.
USAC had a chance to race in front of DOUBLE the crowd they had been the years prior and were more worried about being the "headliner" than having more butts in the seats that could turn into butts in the seats at other venues.
I'm bummed as well, but I'm also excited about the Cappi Classic (I think it wil be VERY popular amongst the fans)

That is where I am at this weekend. It is a can't miss show in my book. I wish the 360 Nationals were a different weekend so that I could see both. However, I will get to see plenty of sprint car racing next week.
