While in Knoxville, Iowa for the Nationals, there are plenty choices to satisfy anyone’s taste buds, but I am going to stick with the one, most important meal of the day (according to Mom), and that is breakfast!

Breakfast is also being highlighted for another reason, and that is, if you are a partaker, the breakfast meal can help you absorb the adult beverages, and not be subject to the adverse reactions your body can have to too much intake!!! Although I no longer consume adult beverages, I do feel very qualified to offer this perspective, and looking back on my illustrious drinking career, could only wish I had a guide like this to help me through what were some very embarrassing and difficult situations that I placed myself in.

If it is coffee and/or tea you crave first thing in the morning and do not have access to a make it yourself coffee pot, hit the Casey’s General Store, either a block south of the track, or across State Highway 14 from turn two. Their coffee does the trick when it comes to caffeine. Hy-Vee, also directly across the track from turns one and two of the raceway offers many different flavors, sizes, and types of coffee, with plenty of creamers and sugars to boot, along with energy drinks for that bump you may need! Donuts and pastries too! Hy-Vee would be an excellent place for folks with motor homes to get their ground coffee or tea bags for brewing with their coffee makers in the privacy of their coaches.

For a more hearty “stick to your ribs” breakfast, start the day out with a pancake breakfast at the National Guard Armory just across State Route 14 from turn two of the race track. Excellent pancakes and sausage with drinks included. $5 for adults, with kids 10 and under only $3! Served from 8 AM until Noon!

While the Armory’s AYCE Pancake Breakfast is the longest standing breakfast deal in town during Nationals, there are now other options as well. I personally am going to try the following out because I am a huge fan of the following’s menu items.

For earlier risers, an All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast is held at the Knoxville Nationals Lifestyle Experience. Opening meals are served at 7 AM, with the joint checkered at 12 Noon.

Wednesday through Saturday, August 8, 9, 10, 11 from 7:30 AM until 11:30 AM the menu is a bit more diverse at Marion County Park, where breakfast is served by the Marion County Historical Society and Lions Club. All You Can Eat Pancakes and Biscuits and Gravy.

These three sources of breakfast are open during Nationals, but there are also plenty of other “sit-down, established restaurants that have menus to choose a variety of items from; the American Legion and VFW clubs usually have great breakfast deals, along with other lunches and dinners.

Three excellent sources for breakfast, and all look mighty tasty from here!

Only one problem for me: by the time I get up, they are done serving breakfast. By that time a lot of people are making their plans for dinner.

Everything you've listed here sounds amazing! I've never been to Knoxville, but fully plan on making the trip up there one of these days.
Hell, this was my first year at the Chili Bowl and I'm 30 years old! I'll have to save this list for when I do make the journey north from Texas.

Thanks for sharing!
