So...do the local IRA boys stand a chance to take home the $5000 on Saturday night? Balog, Kertscher, and Sexton all know how to get around Wilmot. Under the right circumstances, I could see one of those guys pulling it off. Reinke had a great run going against the Outlaws, but I don't think Wilmot has been a great track for him, but who knows? Wilmot is not my favorite track, but if there is one place in Wisco that I can see a local pulling off an upset, it would be here. Looking forward to this show. Your thoughts?

There are a good amount of IRA drivers that will give them a run for the money. This will be a great show withover 40 cars I hope.

I remember watching Balog (if my memory serves me right...) a few years ago at the hoosier fall classic with the allstars when he got screwed out of his 3rd place finish due to a technicality. He was very fast that night and I was impressed. I'm not very familiar with many of the drivers that you guys have up there but, if any of them are as good as he is then I wouldn't call it an upset at all if they win.

I was there that night. He did not go to the scales first and went to the infield. Enough drivers complained so they took it from him after interviewing him as finishing third.

Here is the race.

Oh, I definitely understand why he got dq'd but it just seemed a bit harsh to me. The crew obviously didn't do anything to the car and it would have been more politic to simply push his car to the scales after the interview. Just my opinion.

All Stars rules state that cars will scale first thing after the race. The IRA scales after victory lane so Bill followed his normal protocal he was used to.

Yeah, I remember hearing that at the time. I also remember hearing something about his hauler breaking down on his way to Indiana for the race. He wasn't having any luck that weekend. Hopefully things are different for him this time around. He seemed like a pretty nice guy when they interviewed him.

Scott Uttech has been running great lately, and always runs well at Wilmot.

I just hope they can find a way to get some moisture in this dustbowl. The Badger Midget show was ridiculous. Been that way all year. Car counts are up, racing is much improved since Mr. Sinclair and his group took over. Good fan base. Its not the nicest facility but it is a facility and for that we should be grateful. If they could just find some knowledge on track prep they would have something special.

Not sure where you were for the Badger Midget show, but I never had to put glasses on for dust sitting in the grand stands directly behind the flag stand. I think they did a good job of controlling the dust with the misting by the water truck.

Well said and I agree with all your comments. I've been going to watch the races at Wilmot since the mid 60's at the old 1/4 mile track.

It seems like every show I went to at Wilmot this year, they had to "rework" the track for 30-45 minutes. I go to the track to see RACING not track prep! If they keep interrupting the racing with track repair, they are going to lose a lot of fans.

That being said, I think Steve is doing a great job in as much as he didn't start with much. Give him some time and I believe he can make Wilmot much better racing facility.

Totally agree that Steve Sinclair is doing a great job. We should be thankful that Wilmot exists. Great location, being somewhat between Chicago & Milwaukee. BUT, as long as I've been going to that track, the surface is sub-par IMO. Lots of rocks/ruts, and it doesn't seem to retain moisture very well. I know it's probably not fiscally feasible, but I bet some new clay would make a huge difference . Scrape off & remove the top foot too. Maybe add a few more degrees of banking? Just pontificating, I'm no track prep expert.

Also, I to answer your question, yes, the local boys do stand a chance. especially balog, reinke, & Sexton. I think Mike proved that at beaver dam.

I was in the pits, my opinion is it was one of the worst for flying dirt, dust I have seen in a long time and they were midgets. Consider yourself fortunate, you had a much better view than me. This weekend should be a good one. The top guys have a chance but there's only one I would put $$$$$$ on.

This should be an interesting show, to say the least. I can remember when Dave Moulis beat some good competition when the WoO Gumout series ran there some time ago, but I also saw Sammy come in and get a clean sweep at an IRA show there a few years ago in Hepfner's car. A lot of it is going to be luck. At the WoO show at Beaver Dam, Reinke qualified early and it helped him greatly. If his qualifying draw would've been late, the night likely would have turned out completely different for him. Just hope the prep crew gives them a good track to run on, and with a little luck, we could possibly see one of our guys take home the big check.

Outside of the top 5 in All-Star points and the IRA bunch, anyone hear of any other possible entries? Invaders, MOWA, other?

We just picked up 1.2 inches of rain in the area. I think it will help the track if it was opened up. It has been looking a lot better this year than it has in the past. The crowd is getting bigger each weekend also.

I was at that show when Sammy showed up unannounced. That was great, if you're a a Sammy fan!

Reinke's night would have ended the same as it was a dnf. Give the guy credit he ran in the top 5 all night long most likely would have been in the top 4.
