Score Four Straight For Passmore
King of Champ Sprints Smothering Competition

Salina
Oklahoma (July 14, 2012) – To say Jamie Passmore has firm control over the
Champ Sprints of the Oil Capital Racing Series would be a vast understatement.
Much like the days of dominance by Emmett Hahn in the plains region in the 70’s
and the stranglehold Steve Kinser had in World of Outlaw action in the 80’s, Passmore
can do no wrong. The Rose Oklahoma driver who entered the 2012 season tied with
Sean McClelland and Mike Goodman with three championships apiece is on a
mission to be “The King” of the champ sprints by laying claim to his fourth
Goodyear Tire and Rubber OCRS championship in 2012. The ship has sailed and
barring a sinking, Passmore should cruise along just fine.
Mission: Conquer Salina Highbanks……… “Check”
Passmore started on the pole for the A
Feature at Keith Sanders’ Salina Highbanks Speedway, took the lead from the
flip of the green light and never looked back. In fact, it seemed he was
driving as if he were on a Sunday cruise with one arm out the window in a
relaxed. “I don’t remember if I’ve won here before,” said Passmore whose family
has the GAP Roofing business in the Mid-America Industrial Park practically
right around the corner from the track. “We got good people with us and we try
to make good decisions and hope that works for us. Sometimes you just have to
be lucky too and that we have been,” said Passmore. “On a track like this,”
(dry from warm winds), you just know its going to take rubber and we got lucky getting
a good draw and started up front all night.” Passmore’s victory gives him nine
triumphs in thirteen OCRS events in 2012. It was a complete sweep by the driver
of the GAP Roofing / Wesmar Racing Engines / Eagle as he also took wins in the
M&W Aluminum heat and the Pole Dash.
The
aforementioned Mike Goodman ran a solid runner-up finish for his second night
out in 2012 in the Premier Homes / F5 Twister chassis with the 2012 Brodix / PM
Pro rookie of the year leader Alex Sewell looking strong with his third place
finish in the Action Auto Collision / Sewell Mechanical / A.R.T. designed
chassis. Shayla “The Princess” Waddell seems to have a knack for wind blown
tracks as she backed up her first career OCRS victory at SHS lat May with a
solid and much needed fourth place run in the Shores-Sentry / PM-Pro /
Production Engines / Eagle. Rounding out the top five was the “Gasman” Whit
Gastineau in the DW’s Video / Exterior Specialties / Larry Allen Engines /
Eagle chassis.

After
Passmore’s jump to the front to start the main event, Goodman tucked in second
from his second row starting spot with Sewell and Waddell next and following
them was Glenn Passmore, Jamie’s brother. Waddell wasted no time in getting
racy as she started to put the heat on Sewell right away. Gastineau got around
Glenn Passmore and then was pressuring Waddell as the early laps unwound. On
the sixth lap, Waddell made a pass on Sewell for third by driving off the
bottom coming out of turn two and instantly was all over Goodman’s backside
looking for a way to knock the former champ back a spot.
In the
fraction of a second after Jamie Passmore took the crossed flags signifying the
half way point, Casey Wills spun the Oil Express Trucking / Fleet Services
number 31 in turn two to bring out a yellow. Wills would restart at the rear. With just one more lap in
the books on the restart, Harli White and Kyle Clark would tangle up in turn
two with White’s left front sitting hiked-up on Clark’s car. White would rejoin
the fray but Clark wasn’t as fortunate.
Shortly after the second restart of the feature, Sewell charged back
around Waddell to reclaim the third position that Waddell took from him
earlier. Gastineau put heavy pressure on Waddell and he almost made contact
with her in turn three but disaster was avoided as he backed off the throttle
just enough to keep from having an accident. For the next couple of laps,
Gastineau made a few attempts to get the nose of his car under
Waddell but the college student repelled those attacks each time.

Passmore would win by eight car lengths over Goodman with
Sewell, Waddell and Gastineau completing the top five. The balance of the top ten
were: rookie Alex Decamp in only his third appearance with OCRS, Glen Passmore,
Johnny Kent, Fred Mattox and Tim Kent. In addition to Passmore’s M&W
Aluminum heat win, brother Glen took the Bob Hurley Auto Family heat and
Waddell bested her qualifier in the Drive Shafts Inc. heat race. Wills would
bounce back from his early spin to claim the AmeriFlex Hose & Accessories
“Hard Charger”.
The
OCRS warriors will take a week off before their July 28th appearance
at George Welch’s Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada Oklahoma where OCRS will conduct
the fourth annual running of the “Harold Leep Jr. Memorial” event. Last years
edition was won by Whit Gastineau.
