Lee County Fair Wednesday for MOWA in Iowa!

(Bill W) July 10, 2012 – It has been over ten years since the 410 sprint cars have visited the Lee County Speedway, but the wait is over! The Midwest Open Wheel Association blasts into the racy 3/8-mile oval in Donnellson, Iowa, tomorrow night, Wednesday, July 11! The central Illinois-based MOWA series is approaching the halfway point of its second season of operation!

Jerrod Hull enters tomorrow night on a hot streak with two straight wins. Last weekend, he and crew chief, Scott Bonar, picked up victories at the Lincoln Speedway in Lincoln, Illinois Friday, and at MOWA's first ever visit to the Vermilion County Speedway in Danville, Illinois on Sunday. The defending champion leads the all-time MOWA win list with seven, and has visited Victory Lane in Donnellson with the Sprint Invaders in the past.

Another competitor expected at Donnellson is Jimmy Hurley, who racked up two wins in a row himself earlier this season with tallies at Lincoln and at Quincy Raceways. AJ Bruns is the current point leader. He picked up the season opener in Jacksonville. Other drivers tentatively expected include Jim Moughan Jr., Korey Weyant, Ben Wagoner, Bret Tripplett, Ryan Jamison and Matt Sutton, who recently swept the Sprint Invaders event at Lee County.

Gates open Wednesday night at 5 p.m., with hot laps scheduled for 7 and racing to follow! Admission is just $12, with 5-13 admitted for $5. For more information, visit www.LeeCountySpeedway.com!

Hopefully will be a good show. Any Knoxville guys coming? McCarl, Madsen, etc.? Heard the track wasn't the greatest for the Invaders a few weeks ago but with it not being as hot, hopefully it won't rubber down. 410s at Lee County have always been a good show and for the first time over 10 years, it should be a treat.

McCarl stated on FB that he is headed down to Lee County.

McCarl the only Iowa driver besides Matt Krieger, and no one was touching the 24 tonight. He was the class of the field.

Racing wasn't bad, but what a drag of a show. I can understand the promoter's need to buy time for concessions, etc., but tonight was way out of line. To complete a 10-race, three-class show with 47 combined cars shouldn't ever take 3 1/2 hours, especially since there only two or three cautions all night.

I've never seen a place water after hot laps. The middle did look dry but taking 30 minutes to water the whole bottom half of the track was a bit excessive, especially when it ruined the bottom for the sprints until in kind of came in during the feature (though the cushion was still the place to be).

Having a front-stretch redraw for the sprints is not preferred but acceptable to me, but having the same for stock cars and four-cylinders is a bit ridiculous, especially when they're done out of order with a 15 minute intermission afterwards. In the 3.5 hours there, I would guess that I saw under 10 minutes of sprint car racing.

This was a playbook on how to alienate sprint car fans. The place was packed and money should've easily been made tonight without having to stall to pad the concession stand.

I love the 410s at Lee County, but after tonight I'll think twice about going again.

You mean you objected to watching the guys in the support classes throw frisbees to determine their starting spot in the main? What a farce.

I figured they took a 45 minute break and that's on the light side. Don't care to watch them paint a guys hair pink. Been going to races for over 50 years and seen a lot of time spent selling their hot dogs but this is the worst ever. Can see why their isn't anyone in stands for regular show. I will really have to consider about going back.

I was there last night in the pits, here is something I would like to know. When MOWA comes to Lee County and to 34 for there shows, as a support class why dont they run the 305's I feel that the fans would rather watch sprint cars of any form rather than the 4cylinders. 34 gets about 20 a night and i feel most of the guys would be there. The promoter determines the support classes let them know your opinion
