As I sit her thinking about all the work we have at the shop and guys wanting stuff for Knoxville, it hits me!! Were only five weeks away from the Nationals.
It gets me to thinking. What brings you to Knoxville every August for the Nationals? I mean it goes without saying that everybody is there for the races, but what else if anything gives you goosebumps when you pull into that little town of Knoxville?
Just curious to hear your thoughts.
BTW, be safe traveling and enjoy!!

The atmosphere. There is no feeling like it when arriving to and being a part of Knoxville. I'm kind of partial to just walking around and taking it all in.

Checking out all the new (since last year) cars and items on display at the NSCHoF&M -- I believe this year there will be a number of Jeff Gordon driven cars on display. Also attending many of the fan forums at the museum. A "not to be missed" activity held there is the annual members only program when normally Dave Argabright interviews one or more of the Stars of sprint car racing.

It's the people ,you see some every week, and there are some you only see at the nationals. I have been to about 47 nationals, my wife to all 51, you make friends from all over the country and these are friends you have for ever. I have been in differnt parts of the country and stayed with them all because of knoxville.I know I go now and do not know 1 out of 50 people I pass but it still the good people you meet at sprintcar racing that seems to make it fun. yes the racing is great, but that is a big plus to knowing, watching, and meeting the normal sprintcar fan ( normal sprintcar fan is that a contradition of words.) Have fun

Dingus, and the after race parties, seeing some of my knoxville nationals racing buddies. All the different drivers that I get a chance to watch only during the Nats. The food, the booze, the babes......

I'd say just grabbing some good food, finding a spot in the shade by the main entrance on hwy 14 and people watching before the race, and listening to trackside radio.

...the thunderstorms, damn where do those things come from? They have made for some exciting drives back to hotel in West Des Moines! I love the whole week, it is only sprint cars, not 3 divisions and endless delays? It's a week for the professional fans if you will...I've been fortunate enough to see Ascot, Syracuse, Devil's Bowl!, Volusia, Eldora and many in between and nothing comes close to the week in Iowa!

The trike races at the Dingus were some pretty dam good mid day entertainment for those that got a earlie start on the bubbley, the Parade, pancake breakfasts, the museum, vendors square , walking the teams pits during the day,who can forget the Northcut pork tenderloin.the bigfoot is a close second ,either one is Yummie! , and grabbn a quick cool down enjoying the Dingus AC bumping into someone new ( its frequently a crazy Aussie I name them all Kangaroo Jack, and dont know why ) and back out to do it all over again, all week long! Love it

As a Knoxville resident seeing all the fans, crews and vendors fill up our town never gets old. It's quite an honor to host the best race fans in the world. As a volunteer at the track for many years I love to see the first timers show up. The looks on their faces when they first walk up the stairs into the stands and look out over the track reminds you of just how cool this is.

As another K'ville resident I look forward to just seeing the hustle and bustle that arrives with Nationals week. With the influx of visitiors, many of our local organizations take that $$ that they make by parking cars, selling food and making our comminity a better place to live year-round.
If you are coming into K'ville this year, I encourage you to support the organizations like the Lion's Club, Kiwani's Club (if you will notice the sign down by Young's Park while you're in town, they are building a Kiwani's Miracle Park (fully handicapped accessible park so all kids can enjoy)), and the various other community based organizations (Rotary) that support both the Races and Raceway as well as the community of Knoxville.

The one thing ive notice while attending for several years now is how 90% of the community warmly welcomes this event, Honestly, thier town is turned into a circus for a week or better, everyone seems to understand its impact and importance to the towns future, Im taken back of the "home nit" feeling I get when im there, I always begin looking for a house and a new job when im there, You got my Applaud Knoxville!

Driving up 65 north a little more than four hours through historic old Iowa towns like Corydon and Chariton on 14 highway. (Honestly seen a pheasant last year for you bird hunters!) Pulling into Knoxville and getting gas at Casey's (A great sponsor of sprint racing). Going around the block of the old sunken football field next. Driving by the track afterwards and then seeing my old yearly buddies for a cold beer at there camp site a block from the track. Of course racing Wed. night. ......Next three days in no particular order: buying sweet corn, three days of golf, visit the HOF, driving around town in golf cart and not caring where I'm going, DINGUS,downtown cafe's, hanging with the King and craig at motorhome, turn 3 late at night , pancake breakfast, staying with friends at there house with AC and no more camping, playing washers, buying t-shirts and most of all, renewing annual relationships! The people of knoxville are always great and fun to talk with. P.S. Vande 77, Your local Kiwanis will get my money for there new park!
