NCRA Modified Victory Sweet for Sweet at 81 Speedway!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – June 17, 2012 - Kenny Sweet, Jr. picked up the biggest victory of his career thus far as he claimed his first career National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified feature Sunday night during the running of the "Hoosier Daddy" Bill Hall Memorial Father's Day event at 81 Speedway in Park City.
Sweet, Jr. started on the pole for the twenty-five lap feature with Jason McGehee, who picked up his first career series victory at the track during the season opener back in April starting along his outside.
A couple of cautions delayed the start but once racing action got underway, McGehee would take the lead, only to see it last one lap as the final caution of the feature would wave when Robbie Simmons and Jim Johnson spun on the back stretch.
The final restart saw McGehee bring them down the front stretch, only to see Sweet, Jr. and his #87 Billsbuilt chassis take the lead by diving low in turns one and two. Ryan McAninch would dispose of McGehee for the runner up position and would keep to within three to five car lengths of the leader throughout the feature finale.
At the races midway point it was still Sweet, Jr., McAninch, McGehee, Don Hodge and Tyler Davis with the two front runners putting a full stretch advantage over the rest of the field.
McAninch would come to within one car length of the leader as they approached lapped traffic on lap twenty-two but Sweet, Jr. had no problems maneuvering pass the slower cars and would keep out front. McAninch looked to set the leader up with a last lap pass down the back stretch but Sweet, Jr. would hold on to claim the three car length victory.
"I have been coming here for many years back when my father raced here," said an elated Sweet, Jr. in victory lane. "This victory means a lot to me as it came on Father's Day and it being the Bill Hall Memorial. I knew Ryan was behind me and he showed me his nose a couple of times but I just held my line."
McGehee would settle for third while Hodge had a career series best fourth place finish. Tyler Davis rounded out the top five while current series point's leader Brian Franz had to come out of the "B" feature and work his way up to a sixth place finish.
The four, ten lap heat races for the thirty-one car field were won by McAninch, Hodge, Davis and Sweet, Jr. with Franz claiming the ten lap "B" feature.
The next event for the NCRA modified division will be this coming Sunday night, June 24th as the tour makes their first appearance since 2008 as they head to the Garfield County Fairgrounds and Enid Speedway in Enid, Oklahoma.
