Now that you mention it - I really dislike announcers who feel like they have to scream into the microphone. Also - I wish they would know when to shut up. If they have something interesting about racing or what is happening - great... but so many just ramble and yell. Often we - the spectators - would like to be able to visit with our neighbors who we maybe see only once a year (Chili Bowl, Short Track Nationals, etc.) but the idiots in the announcing booths think they need to entertain us with gibberish. Also blaring out music that may or may not be to anyone's liking. I've even heard drivers comment that this is the one thing they hate about tracks. One announcer told me once that the best thing he ever learned from Jack Miller was when to be quiet. Too bad most announcers are so full of themselves they just ramble on. As y'all have said - stories from the pits are great. Anything pertinent to racing is great. Oh yes - while I'm on my soapbox - announcers who don't bother to find out who is racing and in which car. Remember at the Chili Bowl when Tony kept calling some of the female drivers "he" - even after being corrected by other announcers? How sad to show your lack of knowledge. The quality of spectators at the Chili Bowl knows what's going on - quite often more than the announcers do - so we just laugh at them. Some announcers are great... but others really are irritating (and sometimes I take ear protection for when the announcers are talking - then take it off when the cars come on the track), Now - aren't you sorry you brought up this pet peeve subject? I've been wanting to vent this for some time. Thanks.

Smokers standing outside the bathrooms with little or no regard for where they hold their lit cigarettes with kids trying to get into the bathroom.

IMO ALL racetracks should make a designated smoking area OUTSIDE of the grandstand or concourse in a fenced in area so no one has to get a "pass out", but they can't just "camp out" in one spot all night to smoke while hindering us other fans when we try to go to the bathroom or concession stands. If the state laws won't let people smoke in the grandstand, why is it ok to smoke underneath them?

The GRANDSTANDS are for watching the races, the area in front of the bathrooms should be "clear" for families to get into.

Can I also add the drunks that are out of control and act like they know everything about racing? I hate the drunks, they are usually the smokers too and swear so everyone thinks they are cool. STFU, sit there and be a normal person? Where is it written that you have to get stupid drunk at a dirt track?

agree with that one as well.

Smokers just bother me more as I have a 9 year old that has to weave his way through to get to the bathrooms. I can get security to remove the drunks if their being overly obnoxious.

Gonna "upset" some people here......but you asked for petpeeves

I hate sitting next to fat people in a crowded grandstand! They take up wayyyy more room then their spot in the row. I then sit there knock kneed so they can sit there legs spread open and watch em eat even more........geesh people buy 2 tickets!!

just my 2 cents here......

Used to sit next to a lady at the nationals who bought a seat for her food and she shared It's just to bad I started getting too drunk and obnoxious for her and her husband

my pet peeve is: I can't afford to buy a sprintcar, 3 or 4 410 engines, the same amount of ascs engines, a $200,000 hauler and all the parts I need to be sucsessful in this sport. If I didn't have to pay rent, cashed in my 401k, emptied my savings account and sold everything I had, I might be able to build a competitive sprintcar team. I wan't to race a sprintcar some day, but it will take a miricle.

I get annoyed by the people who start to cough obnoxiously at the sight of an unlit cigar or cigarette. Ya like being at a racetrack breathing burning rubber, burnt oil and engine exhaust is good for you, wankers. Not all but most antismokers are the rudest over the top jerks you can encounter at an event. As a kid I loved smelling cigar smoke waft throughout the air, man how things change.
Cheers!

Wished all tracks would ban stadium seats people bring in. Last outlaw show i was at this younger couple had this fancy seat that was so big no one could sit in the seats or walk thru the aisle behind them cause the seat was within 3 in of the seat behind them and they would not move all nite. People leave your recliners at home .

Those people are just as rude as the smokers.

In Iowa, it is illegal to smoke in the grandstands, restaurants, bars, or public building.

No such law in Wisconsin, at least that I am aware of. I have a couple smokes, and I save the cigar for the A main. I sit/stand on the top row, and try to make it so I am not bothering anyone around me. Standing on the top row helps. It does not bother me if anyone around me smokes, as we are OUTSIDE........ It is one of life's last guilty pleasures lol

I don't smoke myself but have also noticed that some of the rudest people to smokers are those who have quit, they have to lecture and tell about how they quit so everyone else should too, I'm not saying its all prior smokers but when you find that person you will know what I mean. I don't really care if someone smokes around me but some people get out of hand with the lit end or don't pay attention that their smoke is going right in your face, or in the case of my father-in-law, your riding in the car and he doesn't even realize he hasn't rolled his window down so you finally have to say "window please" and he apologizes that he forgot.

My pet peeve is seeing the infield tires pushed out 15 feet from the infield all night knowing damn well that come feature time those things are gonna get moved in and bring a brand new moist bottom groove for everybody to get in and freight train around the only spot with any grip.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

What I don't understand here. Is why is it not ok to smoke in a group of people in the grandstands but ok to smoke in a group of people standing on the ground. Stupid if you ask me your outside at a dirt track for petes sake. breating in dirt, and fuel fumes far worse than my little cig.
