Johnson High Flying on Salina High Banks in NCRA Sport Mods!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Salina, Oklahoma – June 2, 2012 - Travis Johnson started on the pole for the nights 20 lap feature and never looked back as he won his eighth career Bob Howard PDC and Mopar National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products southern sport modified feature event Saturday night at the Salina High Banks Speedway in Salina, Oklahoma.
Johnson got the jump on outside front row starter Joe Adams and quickly established a ten car length lead before two laps had been completed.
Third starting JD Choate and Adams battled for the runner up position while behind them the battle for fourth was a four car effort between Frank Graven, Brandon Smith, Caleb Edwards and Kinzer Edwards.
With Johnson still convincingly out front, the battle for the second would be no more on lap seven as the power plant about JD Choate's Adams Chassis expired causing him to exit the racing surface.
At the races midway point it was still all Johnson by a full straightaway lead over Adams while K. Edwards had worked himself up to third with C. Edwards fourth and Graven fifth. The leader entered a back marker on lap eleven but proved to be no problem for the tours career leading feature winner as he maintained a comfortable lead.
With five laps to go Graven would see his strong top five run come to an end as he fell off the pace. He would later be credited with a sixteenth place finish, one lap down.
Johnson would again approach lapped traffic, this time with just one lap to go, but the Enid driver had no problems and went on to cruise the final lap to take his second feature victory of the season and $700.
Adams held off a hard charging K. Edwards for the runner up position while C&P Racing Supply rookie of the year contender C. Edwards finished fourth. Former series champion Todd Decker his way up from an eleventh starting position to round out the top five.
All twenty laps of the feature finale were caution free with sixteen cars finishing on the lead lap.
The eight lap heat races for the thirty-one car field were won by Graven, Adams, J.D. Choate and C. Edwards while Kyle Stevens had no problems in winning the ten lap "B" feature.
The next event for the Bob Howard PDC and Mopar NCRA southern sport modified series will take place on Saturday night, June 16 at 81 Speedway in Park City.
The series would like to thank the following sponsors for their partnership with the southern sport modified division for the 2012 race season:
