Mid-America Speedway Ceases Operations for the 2012 Season
(May 30, 2012) – The Mid-America Speedway has suspended operations for the 2012 racing season effective immediately. This was a difficult decision to make and it comes with disappointment from within the plans that were set in motion for the facility, the race teams, and the fans of MAS.
As many within the racing community are aware, we took on the responsibilities of operating the South 69 Speedway (formerly Outlaw Motor Speedway) south of Muskogee this season. Our intentions from day one were to see both tracks prosper. To ensure that both tracks would be active, we put a plan in place to have a third party become the majority management team of MAS in 2012, as we took on South 69 Speedway. While we would retain a lesser role at MAS, we always intended to be a part of the MAS team
The 2012 outlook for MAS appeared solid. There were certain stipulations agreed upon between all parties involved and it is with regret that some of those stipulations were not honored. For ourselves, we have become aware that there are certain elements that would need tended to for MAS to continue in 2012 and those issues would take some time to get where they need to be. To be fair to all parties involved, to our personal family at home, and to our commitment to Morgan Motorsports we had to make this very difficult decision. We want everyone to know that we still have the MAS interest at heart and we look to have a game plan in place for the 2013 racing season.
There are so many friends and supporters that have been by our side since we first became involved with MAS that we thank you so sincerely and we look forward to continuing the trust and friendship that has developed these past few years. We would like to extend an invitation to have everyone join us from time to time at the South 69 Speedway as we strive to offer some of the best possible racing entertainment in the region.
For those who have registration, licenses, or any other issues to be dealt with will need to contact the McMurtries directly. Their contact numbers are 918.440.9077 or 918.440.5848.
In closing, PLEASE keep in mind, if you hear of other rumors and/or whispers from other parties, as always, feel free to ask us directly and we will provide you with the correct information on our racing plans for both facilities. Thank you for your continued support and be it a race fan, team or sponsor, we will be successful together as a solidified group of dedicated racing enthusiasts.
See you at the races!
Sincerely, Kenny & Jennifer Gariss
