HOLIDAY DOUBLEHEADER LOOMS

(THUNDERBIRD & CANEY VALLEY SPEEDWAYS NEXT UP)

Tulsa Oklahoma (May 22, 2012) – The Oil Capital Racing Series is set to embark on its second doubleheader of the month during our nations Memorial Day weekend racing extravaganza. It all starts this Friday at the historic Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee Oklahoma where the OCRS sprinters will headline the second annual running of “Callie’s Night”. In a weekend where our nations hero’s are honored and remembered, the racing community does the same for Callie Slader, daughter of Thunderbird’s co-promoters Dennis and Chelise Slader. Callie passed last year and Thunderbird Speedway holds this special night in her honor.

Thunderbird Speedway is Oklahoma’s last remaining half-mile racetrack. The facility possesses extremely long straight-a-ways that allow the 1500 pound sprinters to utilize their maximum power as they approach the sweeping radius shaped corners. Several drivers mark dates on their calendars of Thunderbird events as they enjoy the sensation of such speed on T-Bird clay. In last season’s trio of trips to Muskogee, Whit “Gasman” Gastineau took honors in April in what would be the first of six feature wins towards a runner-up finish in the title chase. Eventual series champion, Sean McClelland, took a duo of checkers with the first of those coming in the first running of Callie’s Night in May while the next triumph came in August.

Shayla “The Princess” Waddell won last Saturday @ Salina

If you want dirt track drag racing on long straights combined with large apex corners for calculated risk /reward moves, Thunderbird is your place to be Friday night. Come be a part of the holiday festivities. Track information:

THUNDER IN THE VALLEY

The OCRS sprint warriors will have a completely different task to challenge when they travel north to Kerry Gorby’s Caney Valley Speedway in Caney Kansas for Saturday nights “Thunder In The Valley” showdown. CVS sports a tight and racy quarter mile bullring that calls for driver finesse as much as speed. Wheel–wheel contact isn’t abnormal at CVS and there are occasions where the most talented drivers don’t see eye-to-eye as to slammed into whom first. It makes for an exciting ‘edge of your seat’ style of racing action. There has never been a dull moment at CVS when OCRS sprint cars are on stage and Saturday night is expected to produce more of the same type of action.

Mother Nature did all she could do to keep lighting fast sprint cars from racing on Caney’s grounds last year. After two previous race dates were waved off, CVS fans got to see their open wheel favorites in the OCRS finale last October where series champion Sean McClelland put an exclamation mark on his fantastic season with his eighth win of the year and a cap on his $5,000 champions share of the $25,000 point fund, the largest ever in OCRS history. The forecast for this Memorial Day weekend calls for sunglasses, sunscreen and cold beverages. Come on out and feel the vibration of the grandstands as winged projectiles scream down the track.

With four events in the record books towards the OCRS “Goodyear Tire & Rubber” 2012 championship, a log jam for the top spot is making for early season drama that a track promoter can only pray for to have race fans enthralled as to what shake ups in the standings could happen next. Three time champion Jamie Passmore took the first two rounds (Brill and Humboldt Speedway’s) and looked like he would be off and running. However, after a tough night at Mid-America Speedway where former series owner Danny Smith took the win and then last Saturday at the Salina Highbanks where Miss Shayla Waddell took it to the boys for her career first OCRS feature win, the mixed bag is set.

Smith leads by a scant two points ahead of Passmore with Waddell just four markers behind that. Barely is there any breathing room behind the trio as Whit Gastineau lurks in the fourth spot followed by Fred Mattox, Casey Wills and Kenneth Walker. Gastineau is just 16 markers back of Waddell while a total of only 18 points separate Gastineau from Walker (282-264).

As we all look forward to an exciting racing weekend for our enjoyment, lets all remember to take a moment to give gratitude to those that have fallen and served our great country. While we have our hero’s on the track, they are but a shadow of the real hero’s that provided us the right to live free and well.

God Bless Our Beloved Military Men & Women
