New Organization to Preserve the History of Northern California Auto Racing
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA (6-11-07) - Northern California has a long and prestigious history of auto racing spanning over 50 years and there is a new organization forming to preserve and celebrate this legacy. The Northern California Auto Racing Alumni, or NCARA, is now accepting members who want to participate in and support activities and events that celebrate the past and educate the public on this important aspect of local history. The group has already established ties with Silver Dollar Speedway and Shasta Raceway Park - the former Shasta Speedway - and has scheduled membership drive events including BBQ and Bench Racing with Show 'N Shines at both tracks. The first general meeting of the NCARA is scheduled for June 27 at 7:00pm at the Pacheco School Auditorium: 7433 Pacheco School Rd, Redding (near the T.A. Truck Stop. Everyone is invited to attend the meeting, drivers, owners, crew members, sponsors, and fans - anyone with an interest in motorsports.
The group is a non-profit organization committed to education and preservation of local history. There are plans for a Hall of Fame which will honor outstanding contributors to local racing as well as an auto racing museum. There are several membership levels including Gold, Silver, General and Associates standings. For a limited time new members will receive the additional prestige of Charter Member status.
Few people outside the racing community realize the impact that our local racers have had on the sport. Famous drivers such as Jimmy Boyd, Hank Butcher and Jimmy Sills in the dirt track world, and Mike Chase, Bill Schmidt and Tommy Hubert in the asphalt and NASCAR arenas all hail from Northern California. "The west coast needs a way to acknowledge its racing history and to show appreciation to the drivers and fans who have supported it." says Lloyd Burton, president of the NCARA Board. We hope to offer everyone, drivers, fans and sponsors an opportunity to get together and celebrate racing."
